Dumpster Mailbox

I had three of these show up in Mail, and now it crashes every time I open it. I keep getting virus alerts in CLAM-X about files in these boxes and I delete them, but they keep coming back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what you mean by "Dumpster Mailbox". Is it something appearing in Mail?

Don't allow anything to delete or "quarantine" email messages, otherwise Mail's message database will be corrupted. Delete suspicious email messages in the usual manner.

I also found a dumpster mailbox on my iphone6 and iPad Air this morning. My son has it on his phone too. I haven't checked other household devices yet - we are all on the same Apple ID. I had to restore my iPad the other day (before the dumpster showed up) because mail was somehow holding on to deleted emails even though I didn't tell it to do so. The dumpster folder appears to have deleted emails in it and we can't trash them. No other issues with mail though. Originally I wanted to know what this was and if it will delete the emails in it at some point on its own because I can't find any info about it. But after reading the above message now I'm concerned it's a virus.

I just did a chat with Apple and was told this is a folder from my email provider. So, in my case, Comcast. The devices just pull info from the provider and this is the result. They (Apple) couldn't tell me why it's there or how to manage it, so I'll need to call Comcast at some point. But so far, mail is working fine for me, so it's not an immediate issue, I guess.

Yes, the DUMPSTER mailboxes in the Comcast accounts disappeared February 14. (DUMPSTER apparently was an old Microsoft Exchange service designed to protect emails in litigation from accidental or purposeful deletion.) Comcast provided no information to its customers, not by email and not on the Comcast website. If Comcast did not have a monopoly as an ISP provider at my location, I would drop them in a heartbeat.
