I found the answer I believe. In messages, swipe left on conversation and you will see two options, show alert in blue, and delete converstation. Tap the blue to hide alert, that should solve it.

you can also open the conversatio, tap the circled I in top right corner. In details for that contact, make sure hide alert is off (old do not disturb). Hope that works.

Hey Friend! Correct. You won’t see the DND but via the Settings app. Within the SMS app, you’re seeing what you should be in the latest software version, that is. By enabling/disabling the “Hide Alerts” feature, the half-moon symbol will display/disappear.

As the thread indicates, that terminology changed with iOS 11. It is now called "Hide Alerts". It can be accessed either by tapping the ℹ, or by swiping from right to left on the message in the list.

You were all very helpful! No apologies necessary :) Thanks to you all, I finally removed that half-moon! Imagine this! I had my boyfriend check his phone thinking he’d set his on DND since this was a bit of a chase to fix! Thank you, again :)

Agreed. This was the fix after I near drove myself crazy looking for the DND in the message itself and even verified global settings. It’s the “Alerts” piece (via message swipe). What a process!

Thanks I see that now, the only difference is in my Canada phone in the new iOS, there is no ‘do not disturb’ setting. It is now called “Hide Alert” within the conversation details. That was confusing for me. I was looking for the Do Not Disturb setting.

Sorry, I hadn't realized that the terminology changed in iOS 11. So, my apologies reim29 who outlined the new term and the fact that you could swipe to remove it in addition to tapping on the ℹ.

It sounds like you may have unintentionally enabled Do Not Disturb for this conversation. This is different than the global DND found in settings or the Control Center. In the message thread, tap the info button on the top right. Here you will see contact info, attachments, and a few settings. Make sure that Do Not Disturb is turned off here.

I don't see a DND setting. All I have is Send My Current Location, Share My Location and Hide Alerts

On one of the messages, click on the ℹ in the upper right-hand corner. You will see another DND setting there. Turn it off, and you should be good to go.
