Pandora starts randomly playing on phone

A fairly bizarre issue, but PandoraOne starts to play randomly on my iPhone 7 plus (plenty of space) without being user initiated (I can be in the other room or in an important meeting with my phone in my bag). I contacted Pandora without any resolution, so I am checking on here to see if anyone has experienced the same thing.

I am all up to date with iOS 10.2.1 and the latest Pandora iOS update, and the issue seems to persist, even after today's Pandora update. I am not sure if it matters, but I do have the Apple Watch on when it occurs and I have yet to duplicate the issue with it off.. Weird.. Currently, I've removed the Pandora Apple from my watch dock just incase, but it has yet to happen again.

The strangest thing about it is that even after I force quit Pandora on the phone, it still comes back and plays music after a few minutes. I tried a powering the phone off and on, and a hard reset, yet it continues to play music at random times. It has yet to do it at night when the watch is not on my wrist, so I am thinking that the watch is somehow the culprit.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I'm having this issue too. I've noticed that it seems to happen when I connect to my home Wi-Fi after being away, but only if I was listening to Pandora while away. Ex: listening to Pandora in my car, pause music, walk in the front door, music starts playing automatically again.

It's not consistently the case, though. Sometimes it starts playing in stores and such where I have no saved Wi-Fi connections.

I do have a Pebble Time smartwatch, though, which can control music playback functionality - including Pandora. I hadn't thought of the watch until now.

I had the same issue. I was thinking it could be from my AppleWatch but couldn't figure out how that would have anything to do with it as I NEVER change the music from my watch or for a matter of fact never use my watch for music, I used change songs using my watch but have not done so in a few months. Being a tech savvy person and someone that works on Apple products as an Apple Authorized Technican at an AASP and knowing how a good portion of it all works as I am an engineering student, I couldn't believe that it could be my watch causing the issue.

After googling the issue I noticed that I was not the only one with this issue. Once I read @peelage comment about removing pandora from the dock on their AppleWatch and it stopping the issue, I gave it a try, I figured I had nothing to loose as I never the app on my watch anymore. Since removing it from the dock about a week ago my music has not randomly started to play or anything. Very happy about that, but I'm not sure if it's Pandoras issue or Apples?

I have the same problem. have the latest updates I've deleted the app and it installed it several times. Plays full blast at the worst times in the movies at work in meetings I don't have Bluetooth in my car which some recommended that it was like you said you press home twice the app isnt even running. if you swipe up from the bottom and swipe over it shows it playing under the music screen. I have to open the app and then force stop it. Someone thinks it's either Wi-Fi or the network well once it was playing i went into airplane mode it's still played with no signal so It has nothing to do with network or Wi-Fi because I've been walking through Walmart and through the mall and it starts playing in my pocket. So it does it on the network and at home with the Wi-Fi. I started to think it has something to do with the second GEN watch but somebody posted they don't even have the Apple Watch.

After more testing, I have found the issue to be more complicated than the Apple Watch fix. I continued to have the same problem after removing the Pandora app from the watch. However, putting the iphone into Airplane mode makes the problem go away, so I think that Pandora is perhaps using a remote notification to send something to the app on the iphone. Airplane mode is obviously not a good solution. The only other way to fix the problem is to delete the Pandora app from the iphone.

I had the same issue with an iPhone and Apple Watch, and uninstalled Pandora completely to stop the problem. After reading the comments here I reinstalled Pandora on the iPhone, but made sure it was not installed onto my Apple Watch. I have not had the problem since that time - over a week now. (Of course there have been Pandora updates as well during that time and they might have resolved the issue, but for now I'm just going to leave it off my watch.)

Similar issues here, too. Commonalities:

- iPhone 6

- Pandora

- smart watch, in my case a Pebble

- I had the Watch app installed also (somewhere along the line, maybe from Pebble, this was recommended, in addition to the Pebble app)

- play seems to start when phone and watch get physically separated

- issue seemed to start some time after I elected to try controlling Pandora from the watch. I didn't like it, so disabled it (or so I thought) soon afterwards

- When issue occurs, stopping the music is as others describe: Pandora doesn't seem to be launched/available to kill...need to launch Pandora and then stop the music

Failed remedies:

- factory reset of Pebble (and declining the option of controlling Pandora from the Pebble)

- uninstalling and re-installing Pandora

Next remedy I'm trying:

- deleting the Watch app

Peelage,

I am having the same issue with Pandora, Pebble Classic, Iphone6, IOS 10.2.1

Pandora starts playing on my iPhone at the most inopportune times.

I could not find any good settings in the watch, or pebble app, but found this:

Iphone => Pandora App => Settings => Devices => (turn Off) Auto-launch watch app

Now if I click on "Music" on the pebble watch it shows: "Start playback on your phone"

it looks like it may have resolved the random playback, but just in case, I have the iphone volume turned down "way low"...

Same issue here, it usually starts (but not always) when I end a phone call. The pandora app isn't on or even in the background. To get it to turn off, I have to open the pandora app, pause the song, double click the home button, and swipe up (stopping the pandora app). It's happened from about mid February to now (late march) and I can't figure it out. Phone is up to date and I've uninstalled pandora and reinstalled it. Help??

I am having the same issue as well. I have an iPhone 7 with iOS 10 and have it paired with a Pebble Time Steel watch (actually, two of them).

I can have the Pandora app completely closed out and it will just start to randomly play music in Pandora. You can't pause it or stop it unless you open the Pandora app and then kill the app.

This is getting to be very annoying. While I like the theory that it is happening when the phone and watch are getting back in proximity to each other (or in my case, when I get home and the second watch is seeing the phone), I am fairly certain this has happened just when I am walking around and I have the phone in my pocket.

I might try removing the Pandora app from the Pebble Watch to see if that resolves the issue.
