What is the last Version of Mac OS that will run Filemaker Pro 6.0.4?

I am currently running Filemaker Pro 6.0v4 and need to share the database with another user who needs a computer. My MacBook3,1 is running Mac OS X 10.5.8. What is the latest version of Mac OS X that will run the Filemaker version that I have?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

If you must run Filemaker 6 into the foreseeable future with 130,000 records to access, my advice is the following:

Install Snow Leopard Server into a virtualization program such as Parallels and run Filemaker 6 there:

You can obtain Snow Leopard Server for $20 from the Apple Store 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only).

Leopard requires version 10, I believe. If you search on Google you should be able to find the system requirements for that FileMaker version.

APPLICABLE TO

FileMaker Pro 6

MAC OS X

Hardware Requirements:

• Apple G3 computer or higher (excluding G3 upgrade cards)

• 128 MB or better

•Hard Disk and CD-ROM drive

Software Requirements:

• Mac OS X 10.1*

Snow Leopard came with Rosetta that enabled running older PPC applications. Wouldn't it be easier to export your data to a common file such as tab delimited or CSV text file? These can easily be imported into other applications.

There are no "new" computers capable of running any version of OS X earlier than the version installed on it when factory new.

Unfortunately for me, the person who set up the relational parts of my database is no longer available. With over 130,000 records, I would prefer to continue with this file.

When I wrote "new", I meant new to me. Looking on ebay, even models slower than mine seem to come with 10.6 which I don't think supports the older softwear. I'll just have to look harder and longer.

Thanks for your help!

Why not buy a newer version of FileMaker that runs on a newer computer. Relational databases are a dime a dozen, and many are able to use FileMaker data. Don't be so quick to give up, and do some more research on your alternatives.

In my opinion, which may not count in your decision, I would be looking to upgrade and modernize. Eventually, you will have to move on and upgrade your hardware and software. Waiting may make it harder rather than easier. If you don't know how to make the transfer, then look for someone who can.
