recovery mode not starting up on Iphone 5

The following discription on your website is not working in an Iphone 5 for my niece:

Erase your device with recovery mode

If you've never synced with iTunes or set up Find My iPhone in iCloud, you'll need to use recovery mode to restore your device. This will erase the device and its passcode.

Connect your iOS device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend, or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

While your device is connected, force restart it:

On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't release when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.

++++++++++++++

I see the apple logo, but as I hold it for a while (while my fingers are turning blue), no recovery mode is starting up. My PC makes a sound that something is disconnecting and after a short while that something is connected again.

Al this while Itunes is open of course. What can I do to erase / reset the whole Iphone?

Hi

The following may help:

Follow the steps here, including contacting Apple Support if necessary:

Ensure that you are using either a genuine Apple cable or an Apple-certified / MFi cable. If you are already doing so, try instead using another such cable:

Check the charging port on the iPhone for any lint or other debris.

Note that, for iTunes to be able to connect with a device running iOS 10 or newer, your computer must be running iTunes version 12.5.1 or newer:

Hi, thank you for your reply.

Thanks to this link, I noticed that I am missing someting. When I hookup my Iphone 7 plus, I get an explorer opened to see my pictures on my phone and all. But when I hookup the Iphone 5 it only makes a souds thats its connected, but not showing a windows to browes trough my phone.
So, I think the driver is good for the newest iphones but not for the older ones.

I checked al of the following point, but did not help one bit:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes that works with your computer.
  2. Check that you have the latest software on your Mac or Windows PC.
  3. Make sure that your device is turned on.
  4. If you see a Trust this Computer alert, unlock your device and tap Trust.
  5. Unplug all USB accessories from your computer except for your device. Try each USB port to see if one works. Then try a different Apple USB cable.
  6. Restart your computer and iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
  7. To see if your device needs service, try another computer. If you have the same issue again, contact Apple Support.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

But then, on this link recovery mode not starting up on Iphone 5 , I read about a peace with headline called:

Manually update the Apple Mobile Device USB Drive

  1. Choose Update Driver Software.
  2. Select "Browse my computer for driver software."
  3. Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.”
    User uploaded file
  4. Click the Have Disk button. If this isn't available, choose a device category like Mobile Phone or Storage Device, if listed.
  5. Click Next. You should see the Have Disk button.
  6. Click Browse and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
  7. Double-click the "usbaapl" file. If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, this file will be called "usbaapl64". If you don't see "usbaapl64" here or if there isn't a Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
  8. In the Have Disk window, click Open, then click Next, and then click Finish.
  9. Windows will install the driver. If a message says that the software you're installing "has not passed Windows Logo testing," click Continue Anyway. You can get help with other common errors and error-code numbers in this Microsoft article.
  10. Open iTunes to make sure that iTunes recognizes your device. If it doesn't, restart the Apple Mobile Device Service.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I noticed that I dont have a"drivers" file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.

Maybe that could be the reason why the driver is not correctly functioning for the Iphone 5?

I downloaded and installed the latest version of Itunes again alo, but no help.
