What Mac OS is supported for MacBook a1181

I have a macbook a1181 that was given to me by a friend. It turn on but has no hard drive. I installed a 350gb that periously had windows. I also have a bootable 16Gb flash drive that has snow leopard. Each time I turn on the laptop and select to boot from the USB it show the apple logo and later shows a blank stop sign while it shows load. It been like that for a an hour and nothing happen. I was wondering if this snow leopard OS is compatible with machine. Need help.

If you live near an Apple Store, make a Genius Bar appointment to have the computer tested. Supposedly there is no charge for testing. Use 2nd link if not near an Apple Store or aren’t in the US. Hardware Repair - Keeping Confidential Data Safe

Did your friend give you the disks that came with the computer? They might be a better option to try.

When you start the computer, are you holding down the option/alt key and selecting the USB drive so the computer will boot off of it?

I did pressed the ark/option Button and select it to boot from the USB and nothing happen. It been stuck on the third picture whole night until this morning nothing happening. OS on this USB is Mac OS X Install Snow Leopard Retail.

After I select it to boot from the USB the next thing happen is what you see in the second picture. I though something was loading and I left it like that overnight and nothing happen.
