Documents folder size is different in finder

Hi all

Im on a macbook pro late 2011, ruling macOS sierra.

My documents folder size is 4.73gb from the get info option in finder, however in 'about my mac' its showing the documents size as 120.66gb.

Which one is correct? I think its finder that is correct as I've deleted a lot or files.

How to i get my 'about my mac' to re-search my hard drive?

As I'm running out of space according to my mac

Thanks

"What's listed in Documents in the Storage tab is not limited to only your Documents folder."

That's very clearly so. That is what the original poster is saying. I have the same question. Why is 'Docs' in storage not the same as 'Docs' in Finder? pls say more.

You certainly are running out of space and should clear some very quickly.

One easy way to do it is to use the Finder to look for very big files. Probably some of them you are not even aware you have.

Press Command-F and in the search window choose "This Mac" and then in the popup choose "Size", "greater than" and enter an appropriate value. You may be surprised. I just did that and found a FCP X library was using >60GB, by mistake...

You might want to start a new discussion rather than piggy back on a conversation started almost a year ago.

In any event you might want to make use of the Terminal.app (located in /Applications/Utilities folder) to see what is taking up space. Try the following in the terminal window:

df -kt

This will show the currently mounted drives and show how much space is consumed and how much is free.

Then describe which volume you are having problems with we can better see what you are experiencing.

Good luck...
