Changed AppleID, now missing photos!!!!

Hello! I really hope someone on here can help me with this!!!

I changed my Apple ID about 3 weeks ago. I was on my Macbook the other day downloading photos to my iPhoto and when scrolling through my older photos i had noticed that a bunch of them were missing! They were photos from when i had my old Apple ID but i don't understand why they would just disappear like that. I know they were downloaded and stored in my iPhoto and now they're just gone! Is there a way to get back into my old Apple ID and that iCloud somehow? iCloud is very confusing to me so could those lost photos be stuck in the iCloud connected to the Apple ID I no longer use? Someone Please Help!!!!!

Thanks!

Sarah

Hi there!

Each Apple ID/iCloud Account share the same credentials. They are just separate Apple Services.

If you created a NEW Apple ID, the content associated with the old Apple ID won't be seen in the new Apple ID (you now have 2 separate accounts).

It's likely that your photos weren't being downloaded to the computer physically, but being stored in the iCloud server to save physical space on your computer. You can confirm this by opening your Photos App, next to the  on the very top left click Photos > Preferences > iCloud

- if you have "optimize storage" enabled, this confirms my theory.

- if you have "download and store originals to this computer" checked, all your photos will be stored physically on the computer in their full resolution file size.

With that said, it's likely you have optimize storage enabled when previously signed in with your old Apple ID - so when you signed out and started using a different one, it removed your content.

No worries though!

go to iCloud.com and sign in with your old Apple ID & Password > Photos

- from here, you can select and download all of them to your computer and put them back into your Photos App that is using your new Apple ID. Archive or make copies of your iCloud data - Apple Support

Alternatively, you can sign out of iCloud on your computer, sign in using your OLD Apple ID, open Photos and enable "download originals". Once that is finished, sign out and sign back in with your new Apple ID and the photos should still remain.
