iPhone 7+ blocking numbers on its own

I was expecting a very important call from a potential employer. When it was 5 minutes after when he said he would be calling I luckily sent an email re confirming with my phone number. I was shocked to see he replied saying he had called several times and each time it went to voicemail.

I was receiving other calls just fine, but I finally asked for the number to call him on and it worked.

I was too busy preparing for the interview to call Apple or Verizon but (it's later this morning wish me luck) but I was reading some threads and it explained that some users were having random numbers blocked and to check the block number list.

I had added the number about a week ago into my contacts and even updated the contact information as recently as yesterday. Anyway, I looked this morning and sure enough it was blocked.

Now blocking a number is a relatively deliberate process and the only time/s I've utilized this feature were in order to block telemarketers who I have had an unusual influx of calls from all over the US especially when I travel. All of the numbers I block never have contact information added in so they just show up as numbers, but sure enough I checked this morning and my prospective employer was in this block list. Bizarrely I had just added his contact info, and his number was in the mix towards the bottom which is even more strange b/c I haven't blocked a number recently. So you'd think it would have showed up as the most recent number i blocked, or at the top or bottom of list not mysteriously peppered amongst the telemarketers.

I can say with absolute certainty no one else has access to my phone, locked with passcode and fingerprint and I didn't block my potential employers number. I distinctly remember blocking each telemarketer I would never have added a verified contact to this list. And I was able to dial his number out (even tho it was mysteriously blocked).

My suggestion for apple for fixing this problem

Is this: if you dial out a number that is somehow on your block list it would give you a message asking if you are sure you want to dial a number on your block list. At least this way folks who don't have time to worry and anxiously scroll through support forums could fix this error and be aware of it.

Frankly I'm concerned because it almost seemed like sabotage. I don't know if this is something a sophisticated hacker could do, but MIT grad next door and a felon on the other side and they are awfully chummy and they don't like our family because my father used to give them business before he moved and got a new job in a different state.

either way... this could have cost me a serious opportunity, by the grace of god it did not, but I'd like to know what support Apple could provide in a situation like this? I have a firewall but I've been told by many IT professionals that if someone wants to mess with your wifi devices, it can be accomplished regardless of how many safety measures you have in place. Both neighbors fly sophisticated drones and I've even heard these can be the method they use to get on your network. they can even trick your phone or computer into joining a fake wifi network with the same name, which is likely what happened.

If someone with a vendetta is trying to ruin my wireless life by thwarting phone calls or even if it's just a bizarre malfunction from iOS it's not acceptable. I'm under warranty, practice very safe networking, I don't even let guests connect to my home network that's how seriously I take this.

Also my google safe browsing service in safari often says it can't be updated and I've gotten no help with that issue (brand new MacBook Pro with touchbar) through the phone support or community.

Any help would really mean a lot or if a higher level technologist at Apple could cross check my logs to see if they look normal that would give me great ease of mind. I've attempted to have logs read before on my older MacBook pro by genius at several different Apple Stores and they did a health test on my computer and said it was fine.

Need to go back to preparing for my interview, hopefully this does not happen again it could have cost me a huge opportunity. Hopefully Apple fixes this it has affected others on this forum.

I have had this problem as well for about two months. It has been killing me and my business. I will cut to what I believe has solved my problem and hope it works for you. It turns out that one of my apps has access to my contacts. I discovered that my BMW app. The one that lets me lock and unlock remotely and other stuff had contacts permission turned on. I turned it off and have not see the problem since. I suggest that you check your apps for contacts permissions. Especially the BMW app.
