Taking screenshots of my screen automatically open Mail app

Hi,

in my new MacBook Pro 15'' 2016, every time I take a screenshot with shift + command + 4 it will go in Mail app.

How can I set macOS Sierra to save my screenshot on my Desktop instead of putting it on Mail app??

Thank you

Fabrizio

You can check the current settings for screenshots by opening a Terminal window and copying and pasting the following line:

defaults read com.apple.screencapture

Do you see any reference to Mail in there?

If you want to revert to the default setting, you can issue the following command in Terminal:

defaults delete com.apple.screencapture

This should help:

Open Terminal (in Applications->Utilities), and then copy/paste the following after the cursor:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ˜/Desktop/Screenshots

and Enter, then log out (apple menu).

Then log in again.

Now the screenshots are saved on the desktop without starting Mail (if everything went well).

I have the same problem. It's been months. I can't find an answer anywhere on the web. New MBP 15 with touchbar. The touchbar screenshot automatically opens in mac mail.
If I login as a guest or test user, it saves to the desktop.
I have reset all the permissions, changed the path for screenshots, check file permissions. I'm going crazy.
What exactly did you do to fix your problem?

If after changing the location for the Touch Bar screenshot location still doesn't work you most likely have a corrupt .plist file where its settings are saved. I don't own a tMBP so I don't know what that file would be.
