Stop xfinity

I am not an xfinity customer, but whenever I'm near one of their routers my iPhone 6 tries to join that network. In doing so it interrupts my ability to connect to the internet, and I have to turn off wifi in order for cellular to work. Is there a way to ignore xfinity or keep it off my phone?

thats not helpful enough 😟. I mean it does work , yes, but its a bit cumbersome on the fly and it happens to me 20-30 times a day at least as I move around town. while I am trying to forget the network, the phone bogs down trying to send text or pics. it doesn't seem to know what to do. and unlike other networks which I can avoid by unchecking automatically connect to networks. the xfinities keep appearing unless I turn off wifi completely . also not great.

they appear in settings> wifi

xfinity seems to be the default of every unnamed Comcast network in town? I am not sure. I have Comcast internet but my router and all my near neighbors networks all have names and the secured (lock) symbol. xfinity shows up without the lock symbol - but does not behave like an open network. The phone never can connect and I am never asked for a password. But if there is one in range at all, it always shows up as the default network. it must be the strongest signal since the phone seems to sort the list by signal strength.

so it goes like this, xfinity appears under settings > wifi (not in choose a network but at the top where the phone has already chosen). the phone spins and tries to connect to xfinity until I either Forget this Network or drive out of its zone. but Forgetting on xfinity does nothing to keep it from doing the same thing at the next xfinity signal 1/4 mile down the road. and this repeats all day. while the phone is trying to connect to the seemingly infinite number of xfinity signals, I can't send sms or pictures since (at least on Sprint) I can't send pics while connected to wifi. or connect to a url since the phone is neither on cell nor wifi. its in limbo.

I wish there was a way to block any network called xfinity.

Unfortunately the Xfinity/Comcast router broadcasts a straightforward 802 network, anyone can connect, but only Comcast account holders can stay connected, it is a guest network with no credentials needed (for a limited time), Comcast don't make it very clear during setup what it is, but if you read the screens during setup you will see it (also possibly in the setup guide) I saw it and elected not to enable it, then (for other reasons) changed modems to a Zoom 5341j which meant I never had to deal with it again. And as a bonus the reduction of $10 monthly pays for a Zoom every 6 months or so.

From the App Store description: "The app also automatically connects you to XFINITY WiFi hotspots when in range"

From the first user review: "The app is good in that it allows you to find and sign into the rising number of hotspots. The problem is that the wifi connects automatically and to avoid this on an iOS phone or pad, you have to turn off wifi in the main settings area, mark that particular hotspot as "ask to join" and then turn wifi back on."

I don't have the xfinity app.

I've never connected to a network called xfinity

I can fin no setting called automatically connect to network. Where is that? The phone automatically connects to known networks whether or not ask to join networks is disabled.

Ask to join networks is disabled.

Whenever I 'forget this network' to stop the phone from trying to connect to any/all xfinity , it only works for that instance/network. 1/4 mile down the road will be another xfinity . Then another . Usually its quicker to continue moving til I'm out of range.

Is there something different about he xfinity signal that creates this behavior in the phone. No other network in range cause the phone to react this way.
