notes quit unexpectedly

Notes quit unexpectedly on my iMac. I have turned off notes on exchange emails and still have the same problem. When try to use notes my printer wakes up. Now I use notes on my iMac, iphone and ipad and I need access across these devices.


ANy suggestions?

Thanks for being a part of Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that the Notes application is unexpectedly quitting on your iMac immediately after opening. In order to help isolate this issue, let's first try to disable iCloud Notes in your System Preferences, and then try to open Notes again:

If Notes crashes when iCloud Notes are disabled, then I'd like you to continue with isolating in safe mode, and if it happens there, to try another user account:

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

On the other hand, if Notes opens with no issue after disabling iCloud Notes, go back and enable iCloud Notes syncing, and try to open Notes again.

I followed the instructions and Notes. Notes will still not open when connected to the cloud. The popup says "Notes Quit Unexpectedly"

Try running this program in your normal account, then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. This doesn't make much sense to me. ClamXav is either improperly installed or improperly uninstalled. I don't understand why the User Launch Agents are unable to locate the executable in /Applications/ClamXav.app but User Login Items seems to find it (unless EtreCheck isn't telling us everything).


It would be normal to see ClamXav Sentry as a Login Item, but there is no reason for the ClamXav app to ever be opened unless you are conducting a manual scan or changing preferences. None of the ClamXav background operations are running, but even if they were they don't require the app to be open.


If you tried to remove ClamXav by dragging the app to the trash, then the UninstallWatcher should have offered to remove the rest of the installation for you, so if that's what you intended to do, then you will need to download and run the uninstaller to get the remaining pieces and parts removed. Go to ClamXav - Downloads and at the bottom of that page you will find a link to download the ClamXav Uninstaller.pkg. Then open System Preferences->Users & Groups->Login Items tab, highlight "ClamXav" and use the minus "-" button under the list to remove it.
