Iphone 7 freezing and lagging almost unusable

I have had an iPhone 7 for a few months now and it has worked perfectly up until a few days ago. It started with the headphone/charger not playing music to the apple headphones. Instead, it plays it through the iPhone speakers. I thought that this might just be my headphones not working but I tried using my friends earpods and still the same result. Then I tried hard resets and every other form of reboot to try and fix the problem but I still can't use headphones. Then yesterday my phone started to lag. Noticeable when scrolling pages on the home screen or turning on and off. Now today I can't even use the phone. Every time I hit the on/off button or the home button nothing happens for over a minute. I can feel the haptics working in the home button so I know something is working. When the screen finally lights up the touch screen is non-responsive for another minute or so. Then whenever thing starts to work, it freezes again and is stuck. The on/off button does not work unless I hard reset and the home button has haptics but also does nothing. Same with volume buttons. I have no idea what is happening.

This is a common defect in the iPhone 7/7 Plus. There is an issue with the audio IC on the logic board which has connections directly to the CPU. Check your Voice Memo app, and notice that the record option is greyed out. This phone needs to be taken to a professional microsolderer to be fixed.

Almost the exact same thing as been happening to my iPhone 7. I only had my phone for a few months now. Sometimes my phone will be unresponsive and shut down with out the phone even turning off, and my games would freeze and then, it would take forever to hard shut it down and restart it. I’ve factory reset it even and still has the issues, I am thinking it’s the new iOS because before all the updates, my phone ran perfectly. Hopefully there is a fix in the works.

I had the same problem in my iphone 7 plus. All of a sudden whatsapp will become slow. Switching apps will lag during calls. Each and every single animations in the UI will lag and freeze. If if restart the phone, there will not be any issue for a while. I took the phone to service center and they will reinstall the latest ios and tell me that there is no issue. When i start using the phone, in a day or 2 i will get the same issue. Took it to the center again. Same response. This repeated for 5 times in a month's period. At last they provided me a replacement telling that there is an issue with the motherboard. Now i have been using the replacement device for a week. Now i get the same issue in replacement device also. I am hopeless now. So is this one of apple's idea to make customers to switch to new iphone? Every time the phone lags i had to restart my phone. At least twice a day i have to do this. What will be the solution for this problem when this happens even in the newly replaced device??

Hi Niccoep,

I understand that your issues started with your headphones not working with your iPhone, and now the iPhone has issues responding to touch or waking up. I'm happy to provide some help for these issue.s

For your current display issues, check out the troubleshooting in the following resources:

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on - Apple Support

If your screen is black or frozen

First, try to force your device to restart.

  • Forcing your device to restart won't erase the content currently on your device.
  • You can force your device to restart even if your screen is black or your buttons aren't responding.

To force restart an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

To force restart an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

I was having the same issue I tried to reboot and got stuck on the Apple screen. 3 days in and several restores later I'm still on the apple screen. It worked for a few hours but the touch screen and home button were unresponsive then it worked through the full set up and rebooted itself and stuck on the Apple screen again for the past day. Good luck.

It’s disgusting. I purchased a brand new iPhone 7 2 months ago and it’s already started to lag at start up and freezes often. Apple are happy to take your money and just expect you to keep on forking out the money to make sure you keep upgrading. This will be my last iPhone I purchase if I don’t obtain a full refund or a free upgrade. Sorry Apple not everyone is as rich and can afford a brand new phone every 5 minutes. Either you find solutions for your existing customers or lose a lot of business.
