I have an iMac G4 I want to install Mac OS 9.2 on.
I currently have installed Tiger 10.4
I made 2 partitions 40gb. each. Both formatted in MacOS Journal file system.
In one partition I have installed Mac OS Tiger 10.4
I want to install MacOS 9.2 on the other so I can run classic mode.
My question is:
Is a partition with the Journal file system type okay for installing MacOS 9.1 or 9.2 ?

You may have a different issue.
If you last formatted and partitioned the drive using OS X's Disk Utility program (which you must have done if the partitons are 'journeled' type), and did not select the option to install OS 9 drivers on the partition you wish to use for OS 9, then that install of OS 9 will not be bootable.
On a G4, in order to use a partition for OS 9 booting, the volume must be formatted HFS+ and OS 9 drivers must be installed on it. In addition, the volume can not be larger than 200GB (this latter limit does not appear to be applicable in this case).
However... if you do not need that volume to be OS 9 bootable, and need OS 9 solely for use as the Classic environment while the machine is booted to OS X, then you do not need OS 9 drivers installed. In addition, if you have a choice between OS 9.1 and OS 9.2.x, for use as Classic I would recommend OS 9.2.x.

The Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or HFS+ is correct for OS 9.x.
From his other posts, he identified his iMac as a 1 GHz G4 model, which doesn't support OS 9.x booting. That's why I didn't mention the "include OS 9 drivers" formatting option.

You can resize partitions as you desire, but that requires reformatting the hard drive and erasing all data on all partitions.
