Thanks, I started with Uninstalling Flash, and got to the last step... almost.

I couldn't find those directories in Finder (I'll look again), and I'm wondering if I'm supposed to use command line or something. Never did that. Then again, I haven't done most things with Mac yet. 🙂

I'll make sure to run Etresoft again after Flash is gone.

And does it generally remove all the files pretty well? Or should I be prepared to go hunting down "leftover scrap files"? Or does command line (if that's even its proper name) work better? I'm just trying to do things the right way. Thanks for your patience. ...I'm trying to hang on to mine, so many things that I still need to figure out/install before my iMac is finally useful... (CS 6 Design Standard, Inkscape, old Wacom tablet, learning to organize files in Finder, etc.) Well, one thing at a time.

Just sorry that I have to waste both mine, and other people's time on getting rid of my adware issues. OK, done "venting" now. 😀

Alright cool, that helps. I think I have those two directories downloaded, restarted, and ran the Adobe page test to make sure it's not installed. So tomorrow I will get back to Etresoft.

One other question. This and other icons like it show up and cannot be deleted, but only ejected. Makes sense for pcrephials/flash drives, but an uninstaller? I ejected it, and it "disappeared," I guess... I wish I knew why it was there if it isn't a deletable file...

Guess I just need to read more macOS introductory stuff.

Huh. Neat. Thanks for the link.

First I want to mention that there are some obvious adware files and stuff, but before I went aimlessly searching and trashing files, I wanted to understand what I was dealing with so I could make complete work of it. (Still haven't tried the method in the links I posted.

Another thing; I got the Safe Finder thing stuck as my homepage, and then when I tried to change it back, it wouldn't go back... at first, but now it seems to be gone, or back to normal... maybe I restarted or something and then it took effect. Well, I still have to remove it... anyway... here's my results.

Oh, but first, can I ask about Flash Player again? That doesn't come installed with macOS right??? Anything with Flash was my doing right? I just want to get rid of it. I don't even know if I need it for most websites anymore. I tried to get it to view Newgrounds... but that's when I got the adware... OK, sorry for rambling, here:

Well, its been a month (life issues I guess), but here I am with an update.

First I downloaded/installed AppTrap based on Macworld.com's recommendation, and it seems to be a neat little utility. Who knows if it missed something, but I dragged the "Advanced Mac Cleaner" icon into the trash, and this utility asks if I want to also move all associated files, and it seems to have moved a bunch of other related files into the trash. (Though I now don't see as many as I thought I saw earlier...) Then I ran Etrecheck, but I thought I'd get a second opinion before removing the two suggested files. (And yes, I'll eventually set up Time Machine when I'm worried about losing files.)

Also, not sure if I still have (or ever had) the Safe Finder virus, but I don't see any signs of it. Maybe I'll look more carefully at those two uninstall methods I initially posted... just looks like a lot of work. 🙂

I think I already made that mistake like a few days into iMac ownership. 😢 I think it came packaged with a few friends.

Would this and this help really help me remove that stuff? I mean, that's a legit site dedicated to fighting malicious adware, etc, right?

Also, is Flash Player listed in System Preferences by default? I think I want to uninstall it and all traces of anything from that day, but thought there was a small chance it was actually there by default.

Would this help me uninstall perfectly (every file)? I know the site is fine, just wondering if there are better ideas, or if this is what most people would try... OK thanks to stedman1 and anyone else who might give me a bit of feedback.

The links you posted should help you remove the 3 items they have instructions for.

You are welcome.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. You should then be able to delete the 2 files by going to Preferences and Caches.
