My iPhone 7plus will not allow my car to read my text messages I have verified that the phone is snyced wit the phi one the car shows the phone is connected

Not sure if you have sorted this but having moved from an iPhone 6 to an 8+ had the same problem where texts not coming through to my car. Try this...

In settings / Bluetooth - find the device that is your car and tap on it. You then get the below screen and the ‘show notifications’ needs to be on for it to read texts.

Go to the Bluetooth. Look for your car’s handle. Click the little blue i info button. Scroll down and click the button “show notifications”. Pair on the new Toyota like before.

Kudos to Darby Brown he put everyone on the right track. I followed his plan then my 2015 Ford Escape with (My Ford Touch) suddenly recognized my iPhone 7 plus as a phone that could read messages. However it still didn't display them and read them out to me. I looked around my phone and realized that imessage was enabled which prevented my car from displaying MMS or SMS messages. Go to "settings" then "messages" then disable imessage but ensure MMS messaging is enabled. I then restarted my iPhone and now everything works as it should. The only thing I can think of that may be the problem is mine and other cars don't use imessage for messaging. I think imessage is proprietary to Apple products only and won't work with other types of messaging.

I was at my dealer this past weekend and talked with service, he couldn’t figure out what is wrong, he uninstalled my phone put it back in, made sure my car was on the latest update made sure notifications was on still not working. He said it is definitely an Apple problem so this will never be fixed I’m sure, it’s been a year now and still cannot find anyone to get this working

Have you gotten any reply regarding this subject, I have a 2016 4runner and i had an iphone 6plus also and it would read out my messages it was great, soon as I bought the iphone 7plus, didn’t work anymore and I have tried everything and I feel like stomping on my phone it is so aggrevating

have you gotten any results from APPLE yet i have had the same problem with my 2016 4runner, I loved being able to have my messages come over my car and now I have to keep looking at my phone at stop signs its rediculous

1. Go to Settings > Tap Bluetooth.
2. You should see your car's bluetooth ID in the list.
3. Tap the "i" that appears after the connection status.
4. Enable "Show Notifications."

With any luck, your car will now read your messages

have you gotten any results from APPLE yet i have had the same problem with my 2016 4runner, Hi Darby, I have checked that notifications box and it still isn’t working, there is somthing with the iphone 7 i believe because there are a lot of complaints, i have even brought it to the dealer and they can’t get it to work

Hi Azemom3 - I hear ya. Sorry for the trouble because it can be frustrating. This is what worked on my '17 Subaru, which is not without it's other frustrations with the iPhone. It's fair to push back to Toyota on this. It would be smart business for them (and all others having to reverse engineer iPhone APIs) to devote resources to a firmware update when they discover compatibility weaknesses. That's the kind of service that separates great companies from the pack.

Thank you, Darby! Had the same problem. My 2016 Toyota Highlander had been reading my texts from my iPhone 4S and stopped when I changed to iPhone 7 Plus (32GB). I followed your simple instructions. They worked like a charm!

I agree I hope Apple fixes this I switched from android and it was working fine with the Samsung S7. I don’t understand why Apple can’t fix this it’s nice to use a function in our cars. Do they have something against Toyota.

Same! I have a 2016 corolla. It would read my texts for my older iPhone 5, now I have a 7+ and I've tried everything, but no such luck. I'm very disappointed. I loved being able to click on my messages on the screen. Really hope this gets resolved somehow.

Darby’s fix worked on my Nissan just now but I have a 6 plus. Did you ever figure out how to fix it on the 7? Was going to get a new phone now afraid too.

I would be afraid to upgrade to the 7, i wish i didn’t because it just doesn’t work for messages at all in my 4runner on entune. I wish they would get this fixed
