Mac Unusable after Sierra 10.12.3 update

Hi, I have a Late 2012 iMac with Sierra. It was working perfectly until I updated it from 10.12.2 to 10.12.3. It hanged when updating (stayed in the white screen with the apple logo for hours) and since then the behaviour is consistently the following:

Works correctly for two system starts. On the third system start after shutdown my BootCamp partition disappears. If I try to run Disk Utility, nothing appears, just the rotating wheel.

Then, when I try to shutdown, the screen goes black and there is a rotating wheel in the middle. It stays there indefinitely. I force it to shutdown with the power button. Then, when I turn on the Mac, the behavior differs, sometimes it stays in the white screen with the apple logo and the progress bar indefinitely, sometimes (after a while) it goes to a black screen with a the mouse cursor only and can't do anything, sometimes it does go to the Finder (after a while, not the previous normal boot time) and my BootCamp partition remains disappeared and I cannot mount it. And the Disk Utility remains blank with the rotating wheel. If I try to shutdown, the same all over again, black screen with the rotating wheel indefinitely and after forcing shutdown and system restart, the same problems (hangs up in white screen, black screen, or slow start without BootCamp).

I tried NVRAM reset, SMC Reset, etc. but didn't work. The only way to solve this is booting into recovery mode (by the way, Disk Utility mode does work here, and the BootCamp partition appears correctly) and reinstalling the SW. But then I start the cycle again, two correct startups, third I lose BootCamp and cannot shutdown correctly, and start having problems booting. I tried wiping the system and performing a clean install with my time machine backup, but the same thing, starts up correctly a few times, and then the same issues. I have tried disconnecting all my USB devices and Thunderbolt External Drive, with no luck.

Nobody else is experiencing these issues? Please help!

Here's the output when I lose BootCamp and Disk Utilities won't load:

/dev/disk0 (internal, physical):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: GUID_partition_scheme *1.0 TB disk0

1: EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1

2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 598.3 GB disk0s2

3: Apple_Boot 650.0 MB disk0s3

4: Microsoft Basic Data 401.0 GB disk0s4

And here´s the output from Etrecheck:

Back up your Mac if you have not done so already. To learn how to do that please read https://www.apple.com/support/backup/. To learn how to use Time Machine read Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac. The reason for creating a backup is that the symptoms you describe could be indicative of an impending hard disk drive failure, so securing your data is a primary concern.

Then, shut down your Mac and restart it in "Safe Mode". To learn how to do that please read Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support. Compare how your Mac works in Safe Mode to how it has been, and describe your observations in a reply to this Discussion.

Then, restart normally. If the same problem returns, please read the section If an issue doesn't happen in safe mode for Apple's recommended actions.

Finally, you can temporarily create a new User Account, and log in to that account to determine if the problem also exists when logged in to that Account. To learn how to do that read How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac. When you are finished troubleshooting, you can remove the temporary User Account by following these instructions: macOS Sierra: Delete a user or group. Before removing it, confirm you don't need any of the files you might have created in that Account.

Let me know what you determine.

Also uninstall the F-secure software. It's not necessary on Macs and that type of software affects system performance.

Remove the TG Fan Helper software. Unless you're experiencing overheating issues you should let the Mac's system software control the fan.

I hope you don't use Corolis to defrag the hard drive as it's not necessary on Macs and can affect system performance. I'd uninstall it also.

Lastly, try to download and apply the macOS Sierra 10.12.3 Combo Update.

Hi again, unfortunately this issue has reappeared with Sierra 10.12.6 update.

For some reason 10.12.4 partly solved the problem: when installing the update, it stuck in the black screen. After restarting and reinstalling in recovery mode everything started working normal and had no issues any more. With Sierra 10.12.5 the same thing happened, update stuck in the black screen, reinstall in recovery mode and everything OK.

With Sierra 10.12.6, stuck again in black screen when updating, apparently worked OK after reinstall in recovery mode, and then the same initial behavior, after turning off the computer and turning it on again, BOOTCAMP partition disappears and now also the External Thunderbolt drive disappears. When trying to turn off the computer it gets stuck in the black screen and doesn't turn off, if I force shutdown when I turn it on again it starts loading and then stops in a black screen; recovery reinstall fixes it one time and back to the same behavior after turning it off and on again.

I tried uninstalling the programs you suggested, ran disc checks, but nothing. Nobody else having the issue? Any more ideas?

Thanks for your help.

You have very old FUSE software-this version is not compatible with Sierra, and it may well be related to the disappearance of your bootcamp partition (this extension is used to support read&write access to NTFS volumes.

You also have other oldish stuff which I don't recognize - shat is this magican thing? It's from 2014 and possibly incompatible with Sierra.

Mar 5, 2017 12:53 PM in response to fer01

Hello

Have you tried performing a disc check? There may be some bad sectors in the hard drive. When it was installing, it could have hung due to this issue. Try going into the disc repair utility and perform a disc check on the disc it self. If there are bad sectors it will inform you and then try to repair them, or move the data to another sector. Maybe Apple support may have a work-around
