Red folder
MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.1)
Greetings, William.
I see from the screenshot you've provided that there's a red folder in Photos that contains one of the pictures you took. I'll be happy to help.

Take care!
I have never seen this nor has it ever been reported here before so no one knows
You state you are using OS X Sierra 10.12.1 - it would be good to update to the current software 10.12.3 - it might resolve this but is good to do in any case
What are your iCloud settings on each device? Does this red folder show on your IOS device?
LN
The red item looks like a burst of photos. Are you seeing it also, if you open the album "Bursts"?
And it looks like you zoomed in all the way onto the red pixels of the tires of the bike.
It you open the Info panel for this red item, what does the Info panel display? What is the type of of the photo and what is the size in pixels?
You must be right. Somehow I must have hit the trigger to take a burst while aiming inadvertently at the red on the tire. I am using Sierra 10.12.3. The picture(s) was 2.3 MB. It was numbered correctly as the next three in a sequence as .jpg file. The same image also appears across my iOS devices.
I completed the repair. However, the red folder remains. Is this expected? Or, do I need to something else other than delete the red stack of folders?
