Airplay issues Pioneer VSX-824k

Weird scenario. Airplay was working and all of a sudden it stopped working. Itunes on Windows 10 is not seeing my receiver. The weird thing is that my computer sees the receiver. The receiver is able to play Net Radio, Pandora, etc. I can connect to the webserver on the receiver from my computer. My Android phone can play music to the receiver so I know it is not a network issue. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, rebooting my computer in between. I am running iTunes 12.5.5.5. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities donm_hawaii,

Thanks for all the details about the issue you're experiencing connecting your Pioneer VSX-824k receiver to Airplay via iTunes. You've done some great first steps so far, and I’m happy to help you with some additional steps to help you find a solution.

The best first step to take from here would be to make sure your PC is completely up to date. It's excellent that you've updated iTunes already, but updating your Windows software can be just as important in making sure everything runs smoothly. If you're unsure of how to update, take a look at the information here: Update Windows 10

Next, follow the steps in Use AirPlay to stream content from iTunes on your computer , specifically this section:

If you don't see the AirPlay icon in iTunes

When an AirPlay-enabled device is available, you'll see User uploaded file to the right of the volume slider in iTunes. If you don't see the icon, follow these steps:

  1. Check that you have the latest version of iTunes and Apple TV software.
  2. Connect your computer and your other device to the same Wi-Fi network. If you're using Ethernet, connect both devices to the same router or hub. If you're using both Wi-Fi and Ethernet, connect your AirPlay device to the same router that your computer uses for Wi-Fi.
  3. Restart your computer, AirPlay device, and network router.
  4. Some AirPlay devices include an on/off option for AirPlay. Look for the option in Settings and make sure the feature is on. For more information, check the device's user guide.
  5. Make sure that your Mac or PC can communicate using port 3689, which is used by AirPlay to communicate with other devices on your network.

Disregard step number 1 since iTunes is already up to date and you aren't using Apple TV. Test out AirPlay in iTunes once you have gone through each step.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Take care!
