If the iPad is in range of a known Wifi network it should connect and you will see the wifi symbol on the screen, even if it is disabled. Once it is connected you would then be able to erase it through Find My iPhone app.

Here are a few other ways you can erase the device if that doesn't work. If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

If you named the device under General>Settings>About>Name it will show with that name, (for example, my iPhones are listed as GB's iPhone 5s, GB's iPhone 7, etc.). However, if not, then it will just show iPhone or iPad. This would be true wherever you are looking at the device list, whether it be in Find My iPhone, on your Apple ID, or in iCloud.com. This would also be true for the name of the device if you hook up to iTunes to sync it.

If you didn't ever name it, then it would just be a generic name.

But if you see an iPad listed when you sign into iCloud.com and open Find My iPhone, then try that Apple/iCloud ID and password. If that one isn't right, then check another known Apple/iCloud account to see if an iPad is listed.

If you have the original sales receipt, then you can take the device to your local Apple Store along with a photo ID, and they should be able to remove the lock. But you must be the original owner (sales receipt from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller).

Best of luck,

I'm referring to an iPad 2. It was bought, maybe, during its first release. It's that old now. And the truth is, this iPad was actually used by my younger sister (12y/o). She was the culprit for the ipad being disabled. By the time then, I hid this ipad for a long time and just got stocked in a drawer together with her iPhone4, w/c again she disabled long time ago before the iPad. Good thing was, iPhone4 have been recovered (just yestereday) with the right Apple ID that my sister provided me. She told me that she has only one apple ID for both iPhone4 and iPad. But the ipad won't get activated by the apple ID she gave me.

Here's the exact statement from Apple:

'This iPad is linked to an Apple ID. Enter the Apple ID and password that were used to set uo this iPad. '

Is the ipad requiring the very first apple ID that was used to set it up or is it asking for the apple ID that was currently signed on the ipad prior it has been disabled?

If you can see the device in FindMyiPhone then you know the iTunes account and it will show what device type it is but will not show if its an iPad Air vs iPad Air 2. It is the iTunes account you're signed into to see your devices or it is a family member's account (if you're using Family sharing).

You can see which iTunes account it was last attached to by selecting the device then selecting the i in the bottom right corner.

I'm not sure what you are referring to here. The device is Activation Locked to an Apple/iCloud ID, and the OP needs to figure out what that ID is. There is no way to figure that out except by trying Apple/iCloud IDs that show an iPad listed as one of the devices in the Find My iPhone app. Neither iTunes nor Family Sharing come into play here.

It is asking for the Apple ID and password that are currently signed into iCloud with Find My iPhone turned on. So, it would be whatever Apple ID was signed into iCloud when it was disabled.

You can check to see if it is on the device list for a particular Apple ID by going to iCloud.com, signing in with an Apple ID, and then clicking on Find My iPhone to see if the iPad is listed in the list of devices. If it is, then that is the ID it wants. If it isn't try another one until you find the one that has the iPad showing in the Device List.

Cheers,
