Stop Browser Audio On iPad: Listen to Apple Music while browsing web

So if you turn on music and try to browse with Safari it works ok until a website has some audio content to feed you. Then the music stops and the browser audio plays. You have to go back to Music to restart your tunes. This happens every time a site send you audio. Same issue with Chrome. This is not the behavior I want. I want to listen to music and browse. I don't want the browser interrupting nor stopping the audio stream from Apple Music. Any suggestions?

ADB Is a nice tool for removing advertisements. Websites will complain a lot some might not serve you the content you actually want without ads though. That's annoying.

But it's not just ads I want to block. I want to block all audio content that might disrupt music. Some of the content is served directly from the pages I want to read. I want the websites to function normally with this audio exception though. No need to inform the page I'm not listening to it's audio. Just mute it.

I want to mute the web so I can listen to music while browsing.

How does that answer the OPs issue, where a web site with audio content interrupts the Music app? Many perfectly legitimate (no advert) web sites have auto-playing audio content - CNN and other news sites is a common example.

OP - sorry, I don't know of any way to stop that behaviour. The active app in use on the display will always have priority over any background app. So any autoplay content you surf to is going to grab the audio channel for itself.

Hello eejer,

There is indeed an option available to you to take back control of your browsing experience without the inconvenience and discourtesy of intrusive ads that automatically play audio and video without your permission. Download Adblock Plus (ABP) from the App Store. ABP will block intrusive ads, and only allow for ads that do not disrupt the browsing experience. Adblock Plus is safe, convenient, and offered at no monetary cost to the user. I will provide you a link to the app's store page in App Store.

Best of luck

Hey thanks Michael that's what I'm seeing. It makes sense that the active app would have priority on the sound pipe. It also makes sense Music would stop when the priority app takes the resource.

I think we need an active app (browser) that allows muting so we can stop the active app from grabbing the audio pipe. It seems odd to me that both Safari and Chrome don't seem support this on iPad.

It works like this because Apple designed it that way. I'd suggest you tell Apple about the 'bug/ feature request' and also contact the developers of your favourite non-Apple browser. They could possibly add a feature to ignore audio (a simple 'mute all tabs' button could be enough). I don't think browsers can tell that another source is already playing elsewhere.

It would be nice, and you can submit feedback to Apple about it at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ (pick any iOS device to submit feedback about iOS).

Nobody really makes it easy to stop autoplay content on desktop browsers either (Firefox, with the hiddem about:config menu, Chrome burying it in plug-ins settings, ...). I find autoplay content, of any kind, highly annoying and would gladly disable it completely on all my devices if I could do so (on my MacBook Pro and work Win 10 laptop I've largely got it shut down).
