MacBook Pro 13" showing weird screen failure at cold temperatures

Dear friends,

I am having some problems with my MacBook Pro 13" with Touch Bar.

A few days ago I discovered this weird problem with my screen. It's hard to explain how it looks, but I managed to capture it on camera with my iPhone. You will see these weird grey-ish lines on the top of the screen at start-up when the MacBook is relatively cold. It looks like it's a hardware problem, because it really has to do with the temperature. If the MacBook has been on for a little while (about 5 min) it has warmed up enough to make the lines disappear. Even though the lines go away, I don't think this is right. Am I the only one having this problem? With a Google search on "MacBook Pro 2016 cold" I seemed to find a couple of other people having the same problem, but no answers were given in the results. I hope someone here could tell me if they have the same problem I have, and maybe how to fix it, if it's fixable anyways. I also have an appointment at the Genius Bar in a week, for if I can't solve the problem myself.

You say cold--are you below the Mac's normal minimum operating temperature?

In number 4 it says the bottom of the range is 50℉ or 10℃. If you are below that, then something odd like that might not be unexpected. If you are above the minimum temperature, then it would be worth seeing what the genius has to say.

Good luck!

Hi Twit / Apple,

Thanks for writing about this question. I got a new Macbook for work (version without the touchbar at the top) and every morning, after waking up (apartment at around 65-70 degrees F) my Macbook screen is like this for the first 20 minutes while it starts up.

Apple,

I would be more then happy to swing by a local genius bar if this can be replaced. If it'd possible, please reach out to me directly. Never write on forums, so I apologize in advance if this isn't the right way to go about things.

My best,

Ray

Apple is not here.

The Apple Support Communities provides a place that Apple users of wildly varying experience can post messages to each other. It is likely other users can provide some insight for posted problems, but no one who answers works for or speaks for Apple, Inc, unless they are clearly identified as an Apple employee.

Apple makes no promise to read these messages, and only replies here when a post with no answers languishes for days.

You need to follow the links at the bottom of each page and find a service location near you, and make your own arrangements for service, if that is what you seek.
