Apple pencil wouldn't pair with ipad pro

hi

I have my apple pencil since around 1 year. And i have paired it with my ipad pro previously.

SInce 5 months I have stoped using it and was stored properly. Now I tried using it, it gave me a message on the ipad that the battery is only 3 %.

I Charged the pencil, but still didnt work. I unpaired it and again tried to pair it , but coudnt ..

I have tried everything mentioned here to fix the problem: even conducted a hard reset thru itunes, but still no response.. also tried tightening the tip...

my operating system is ios 10.2.1

do you think that the problem is generated from updating my ios?

the pencil was not used alot. And stored in its box. So Iam certain no phisical damage was done to it.

please help

iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 10.2.1, Apple pencil

Thanks for responding.

I checked the article, and all bases are covered.

after inserting the pencil, i receive a message to pair, then it shows connected for 2 seconds, then again not connected.

then after a while, i receive the message: check that your pencil is in range and 'on' and ready to pair !!!

Even the battery widget does not appear in notifications , i tried adding it by the plus sign in 'edit'.

I Have tried : forgetting the pencil and re pairing. Still the same .

my question is: do you think that updating my ios to 10.2.1 is affecting the pair process and the battery widget?

thanks

I'm having this problem as well. Last I used Apple Pencil some months back all was well, Apple pencil stored safely away in its original box. iPad pro I updated to the latest iOS this week, along with other software updates. Attempt to use Apple Pencil, it's not working. Widget always reports 3% charged, after having hooked up the Apple Pencil to my iMac for charging purposes for about an hour. the iPad pro will show the Apple Pencil as connected, then a few seconds later says not connected, few seconds later says it's connected, back and forth. If I tell the iPad Pro bluetooth to FORGET the apple pencil, and attempt to repair the Apple Pencil to the iPad Pro, I get the Pair pop up window, which only shows for a second or two, then disappears without any interaction from me. A minute or so later I get a message that the pairing was unsuccessful and asks me if the Apple Pencil is turned on and in range. Which it is.

I have the exact same issue. IPad Pro 12.9 with iOS 10.3.2 with the exact same behavior as described above. I have also followed the basic steps turning bluetooth on and off, resetting the iPad as well as forgetting and trying to repair the Pencil. Still the same behavior. when plugging in it appears shortly, requests a pair upon it suddenly disappears from the list. It shows shortly as connected and the disappears again. As several of you guys I have had it lying in a box for quite some time, probably around 10 months or so.

I moved on on using my wifes iPad Pro (a new one of the smaller size using 10.3.2 as well) with my faulty Apple Pencil and it has the same odd behavior there (not working either to be clear). I tried her new Apple Pencil on my iPad Pro and it works fine after pairing as usual.

So from what I derive from this is that we who have had the pencil lying around and not using it have malfunctioning pens and the problems seems to be with the pen and not the iPad.

Have anyone had any luck talking to apple support or similar regarding this issue? Could it be that the battery goes bad if not in use?

Hello soubhi-brt,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

To recap, your Apple Pencil isn't working with your iPad Pro. Initially you discovered the battery was low, but after charging, resetting, and restoring the issue remains. We can definitely point you in the right direction for this.

Based on your troubleshooting and its results let's have you take a look at the following Apple Support article on troubleshooting the Apple Pencil just to make sure all bases were covered:

Use Apple Pencil with iPad Pro

Let us know if you have any questions, and again thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Have a great day!

Cognizant Apple employees aren't here.

Other than a few Apple Support Communities specialists and Apple staff that moderate these support communities, everyone here in here are just users, just like you who volunteer their time to help out our fellow users with Apple product technical issues and solutions.

The only way to get Apple to listen to you and make them aware ofva growing product issue is to use their feedback portion of their website.

I'm also having the same problem. I just got it and I couldn't even pair it in the first place. I haven't gotten it to work at all. Same issue with the pair pop up dissappearing after a couple of seconds and then on the Bluetooth screen it says connected then disconnected and it keeps doing that. I've charged it overnight, resetted my ipad, deleted the pencil off of Bluetooth and nothing seems to work.

I have the same issue with all of you guys.. I just noticed that because I haven't use my pencil for a while.. any solution here? I can't use apple support from here (Kuwait) and we don't have an apple store here... Mostly I think it's because a software bug... please Apple find a solution for this problem... we didn't pay around a 100$ for a pencil that doesn't even work.

Hi!

I have the same issue and manage to test with two different iPad Pros and two Pencils where one of them shows the same faulty behavior as described in this thread. The new Pencil works with both iPads and the faulty one shows the same behaviour with both iPads. As several other who has the same issue, this faulty Pencil has been stored in a box for maybe a year.

Is this maybe a battery issue?I am very happy with my Apple products so this issue surprises me quite a bit. I expected higher quality. Please advise on how to move on to sort this out.

Thanks in advance,

Marcus

Unfortunately my pencil was sort of dead. I’ve had it tested at the Apple Store. The reason it was dead was unclear. It had been laying around for a few months (3-4) and suddenly it was dead. I had to buy a new one for 89 Euro because pencil was out of warranty but I’ve got a discount...

No smart solution to share just my story...

I'm having the same issue with my Apple Pencil bought in 2015. It won't work with my 2015 iPad Pro or my new 2017 IPad Pro. It won't pair properly and jumps around between other devices and my devices without ever properly connecting.

Did you ever find a solution? I'm in Cyprus so no Apple Care here.

Maybe you should try keeping the Apple Pencil away from other Bluetooth activated devices or turn off Bluetooth on your other devices, when not in use, to prevent the Apple Pencil from trying to accidentally connect to other Bluetooth sources other than the iPad Pro.

This is not good at all. every so often I have to plug my Apple Pencil to my iPad so my iPad can recognize my apple pencil, I have to remove it from Bluetooth and again set it up. it has full charge, my iPad is updated always. Please, guys! we spend a lot of money to use these devices. it's so annoying.

Anyone found a solution to this? Having the same issue with a pencil that’s been in a draw for a couple of months - plug it in, the Pair button pops up for about half a second then disappears, says it can’t connect when clicked on under Settings/Bluetooth. This is on a new iPad with ios 11, too. Tried restarting, forgetting etc, no joy.

I have the identical issue described by everyone. Except my Pencil was in use yesterday and every day, I didn’t store it unused at all. Today, it will not pair. The Pair Message pops up, I confirm and it says Connected in the Bluetooth settings if you are watching for a few seconds, then it says Not Connected. I tried Forget this Device, Reboot iPad etc, same issue. I tried another Pencil, no problem. So problem is my Pencil, not the iPad Pro. And I updated to iOS11 the day of release and have had no problem with pairing until today.

It is unacceptable that do many Apple customers have the same issue and have bothered to post here, which is probably 1% of those who are experiencing this problem who haven’t posted here and I see NO RESPONSE whatsoever from Apple.

APPLE, you need to address those on this thread TODAY. Have we wasted our money?
