My special edition ipod U2 just bit the dust. Can they be fixed? I can get the apple to come up but it won't recognice itunes or charge. Apple kiosk said it was shot. Any ideas? How do you get the cover off?

Itunes won't recognize it, it won't charge, and apple kiosk said they can't fix it. Help!

You may be able to track down a third party repair shop that will possibly fix the device, however many won't touch it because Apple do not provide spare parts & the supply of disks suitable for that model is dwindling (Toshiba stopped making them). Keep searching & sending emails to find a repair centre. Your best option is to find a newer second hand iPod if you need the classic form factor.

See https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod for info on repair if you are technically capable - I wouldn't recommend attempting anything unless you have a clue about handling electronics & some experience with small tools.
