restoring back up password problem

I had the same question, but in my case the issue was linked to the first computer I used to back up my iPhone 6. So when I entered my password from my old iMac, problem solved!

I was never prompted to set a password for the encrypted option, and now I am getting the error message "The password you entered to unlock your backup was incorrect."

What does Apple default the password too?

I KNOW my password - used it today also backed up my phone today UNENCRYPTED - now the password is not working HELP

• If someone else set up your device, ask them for the password.
• Use an iCloud backup instead of iTunes. If you don't have an iCloud backup, you can make one.
• If it's still relevant, try using an older iTunes backup.

Anyone received any update regarding this issue. I am even running decryption programs which is going to take forever. I made the backup and due to an iPhone 8 faulty device I need to restore my only backup to my new device with no luck on it accepting the password.This is bloody unacceptable. All my data stuck on a backup.

I'm having the exact same issue, and NEED my back up. I never set it to encrypt and never put in a password. I backed up on itunes right before getting a new phone, and now I can't get to any of my data. I have extremely important pictures and notes on there that I need for a court case. This is totally unacceptable!

Same issue here. Just backed up my iphone 6s and tried to restore to iphone x with the exact same error

I found the issue.

Go to iTunes,

Select the device (iPhone)

The backup will show the encrypt my backup. That's the password that you need to be able to restore from backup to the new iPhone
