Was my iPhone used before?

Hi. I purchased my Sim-Unlocked iPhone 6s Plus from a third Party retailer store about 8 months ago in July 2016. But recently in March 2017, my iPhone has started getting issues like freezing on Home screen, unresponsive Touch ID, overheating (though no warning is displayed). The iPhone was gifted to me, and so when i received it it was not originally sealed. The relative who gifted it to me told that he asked the shopkeeper to un seal the and put a screen protector onto it before he gave it to me. The iPhone and it's box seemed clean and new, thus I wasn't worried, till I experienced that it's battery was dead when I got it out of the box. But hey, I ignored that. Now recently when I started getting problems with my iPhone, I searched my settings menu and saw in the Settings> Cellular section that my iPhone's Statistics were last reset in November 2015... though I had bought it in July 2016??

Could it mean the iPhone had been used and then unofficially re-sealed, and sold at cost of a new iPhone?? Please help.

Resellers other than Apple Authorized resellers do not have any access to Apple OEM new products. By definition, any and every Apple product they sell is used, stolen, gray market, or fake. And the default one year warranty period begins on the date of first retail sale by Apple or an Apple Authorized reseller.

There really is no way to know the history of your device, how many owners its had or what has been done with it in the past. It's used and that's about all you can know about it prior to the time you got a hold of it.

Thank you so much for all the time. But just one last thing. Can I get the explanation on how you determined it was a used iPhone? The thing that is confusing me is that I bought the iPhone from an unofficial retailer, who might have bought the iPhone from Apple in April 2016, and then I bought it from him in July 2016... but the reset date displaying in my iPhone's setting app is November 2015! So how can the iPhone be reset before even being purchased? Please help me understand. Thanks

The warranty expires on April 2, 2017. Almost a year ago. That means it was first purchased on April 3, 2016. Those are the only dates that matter in determining if it was new or used when you got it. As you bought it in July 2016, that was 3 or 4 months after it was originally sold. What was it doing for those 3 or 4 months? You also said it was bought as a SIM-unlocked phone from a 3rd party retailer. 3rd party retailers do not have access to SIM-unlocked phones; they can only be purchased directly from Apple. So in addition to being a used phone, it is not a SIM-unlocked phone.

Actually the reason is that since I foind out that my iPhone was used before, I contacted Apple on the phone line and they told me that it had been activated for the first time on 3rd April 2016. With that confirmed, I tried to look fir more evidence on the box and accessories. And although the box had the correct IMEI and Serial number stickers on it, the lightning usb does not have anything printed on it, such as Made in California... and the power adapter also says 'Made in India' rather than made in California or Made in China.

So, what I'm trying to ask is, that do these two things mean that my iPhone's charger and lightning cable are also fake? Because on Apple's website it says that the charger cables are printed with serial numbers and words such as 'Made in ....'

Please help me out. Thanks

Yes, ok. But what I'm trying to ask is that, is it possible that the genuine power adapter (the american one) be made in India? Also, do lightning cables originally have something (like serial number or Made in California../China/etc..) printed on them, or are they plain?

Please reply so that I can get to a conclusion about whether only my iPhone is used or the whole set is un-matched (in sense of original accessories).

Thanks.

This is a technical support forum staffed by users. It is NOT the World Psychic Society.

Your phone is used. Absolutely. It doesn't matter what's on the cables or the charger, the warranty expiration is MONTHS before the one year anniversary of when you bought it. That means it was NOT NEW when you bought it. Nothing else matters. You did NOT buy it from Apple. You did NOT buy it from an authorized Apple reseller. You bought a gray market phone from a scam artist who told you it was new. There is a non-zero probability that the charger and cable that came with your phone are genuine Apple and were originally packaged with the phone you bought. I wouldn't bet lunch on it.
