macbook pro a1286 problem

I've been handed the task of repairing this macbook pro and have to say I'm struggling badly! I've put a new hdd in but am unable to get any disks to run? It seems as thought the drive won't read dvd's and my snow leapard cd makes it panic and throw up an error as shown.

Apparently there's 22 models in this range and OSX 10.6.6/7 will work but am not sure if I have it or can get it? Can anyone throw any light on it? As I type the screens gone all pink & fuzzy so maybe its the graphics chip to fault?

Thanks for the quick response 🙂 I used the serial from the ram plate which gave me this (its a late 2011) MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) - Technical Specifications

The fuzzy screen only happens when it panics and not any other time. I've tried resetting nvram, smc and all the usual tricks then took the hdd out and placed it in my windows hdd reader but it won't open most of the files, even images hence the thought of hdd failure and being 6 years old we decided on a new one anyway once inside...

ah thanks for that Ogelthorpe I guess it's one of Apples newer facilities I've missed seeing as I rarely get Apple products in for repair. In fact I've picked up on a few more little hints & tips recently even down to screw types!

I've left it doing the internet recovery, it's currently on a grey screen so I'll walk the dogs and see how it goes when I return...
