iMessages Randomly Deleted

All of my iMessages have been randomly erased from my phone overnight. I did a hard reset and nothing came up after that! What can I do to get them all back? I have no backup or iCloud. I don't understand why this happened. Please help!!!!!

There are several reasons may lead to iMessages lost, like iMessage saving settings, insufficient memory and so on. You might need to rule out those possible causes and see if you can recover those lose messages. Honestly, it would be a little hard to recover your iMessages without any backup, but there are still some little tips you can refer: How to recover deleted iMessages from iPhone.

For further reference, it would be better to get into the habit of regular backup. Just enter into settings > iCloud > backup and select to automatically backup, which will be your best and easiest way to recover lost data.

It is hard to say exactly what happened, but have you checked in Settings to see how long you have it set to save messages? Also, why would you not have any backup? That is the quickest way to lose any data. Remember the iPhone is a portable computing instrument, and should always be backed up. That is the only way to recover data. You can set iCloud to backup daily without any interaction from you when the device is connected to power and wi-fi. You also have the option to backup to iTunes whenever you connect to the computer.

Hello Kaylee901,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about your missing Messages. I am happy to provide some troubleshooting steps to help check this out with you.

Please check the storage on your iPhone. This article will help you: Check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch . You will need to check under Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage. Please check your available space under Storage. If this is 0 or close to 0, select Manage Storage and confirm that your messages are still on the device by checking the Messages usage.

If the space being used for Messages is over 0, then your messages are most likely still on the device, just not being displayed within the Messages app. This may be resolved by freeing some space. If you have a large amount of space being used by the Messages app, I recommend going through and deleting old threads once you get your Messages to reappear.

Be aware, it may take restarting the phone once you make some space on your device to get them to re-appear. If you need help restarting your iPhone, use this help article: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .

Another location to check is Settings > Messages > Keep Messages (under "Message History"). Depending on this setting, 30 days or the 1 year selection, messages older than the specified time will automatically be removed after that time. You can keep messages forever by changing this selection to keep messages "Forever".

Thanks again for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with this. Have a great evening.
