Older Gmail inbox messages not showing up

Hi,

I use IMAP to sync between Gmail and Mail.app, with a folder limit of 2.000 messages. I try to leave as few messages as possible in my inbox - but sometimes a few slip through.

There are a few (4) older messages (~ 3 weeks) that are still in my Gmail inbox, but seem to have disappeared from Mail.app on my MacBook.

When I search for these messages in Mail.app, they don't show up anywhere, but they're there in the inbox when I open the Gmail interface in a browser.

Could someone offer advice on why these disappeared from Mail.app and if there is a way to show them there again?

MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.3)

Thanks for responding, tygb! But the situation is that I have 4 e-mails in Gmail's inbox that (a) don't show up in my Mail.app inbox and (b) I can't find via search, so they're not in the All Mail or elsewhere either. I would like to know how I can make sure that all messages in my Gmail inbox remain accessible through Mail.app.

Did you create some rules , in mail preferences and you also said that when you open web mail all the mails in inbox folder exist and but 4 of them have disappeared in IMAP account .

If you have not created the rules , there is possibility that IMAP account is corrupted or you have exceeded the mail quota limits , open IMAP account & right click over inbox > click on get info is the size of mail box exceeds 18.25 GB .
