Sometimes, with the Apple digital HDMI adapters, sometimes you have to disconnected/reconnects the adapter to get the iPad to recognise the adapter and connection.

Sometimes, you have to do a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons to get the adapter to be recognised.

Good Luck!

Okay,

That means the adapter is working, but it's not working with certain apps.

Not sure about the ShowTime app, but video output is supposed to work with the Netflix and YouTube apps.

Disconnect the adapter from the iPad.

Quit both YouTube and Netflix from the iOS App Switcher.

Then relaunch the Netflix app and wait for it to get to the main library screen.

Then, try plugging in the adapter to the iPad, if the Netflix library screen appears on the TV, then try starting a video/movie to watch and see what happens.
