Cannot complete action in family sharing

I finally got this to work through the phone.

I selected the “invite in person” option. They key their password in (basically them accepting) on your phone. Hope it works for others too.

This message is likely way too late for you but may help someone else.

I went to the iPhone of the family member I was attempting to add and Logged off her current ID for iTunes & App Store.

That resolved the problem immediately. The invitation worked correctly once I did that.

Actually just figured it out. Hold down the invite in iMessage, copy the link, and paste it into safari. Complete from there.

I had the same problem when my wife tried to add me. It turns out that on my iPhone I was logged in to my own iCloud account but with my wife's account for iTunes purchases. After I changed my iTunes login to my iCloud account, I was able to accept the invitation.

I had the same problem. While I have 200Gb storage plan (with which storage sharing is allowed), whenever I tried to turn on the family sharing function on my iPhone or iPad pro 12.7, the same error message “cannot complete action” kept popping up. But, finally, I could turn on the function using iCloud system preferences panel on Macbook Pro. While it is far from sure-fire solution, you could try to use a Mac OS device such as iMac, Macbook, or Mac mini instead of iOS devices.

I had this same problem and was able to resolve it by using my Mac and setting up family sharing from there. I was unable to fix it from an iOS device.

I see you're having some difficulty adding your husband to Family Sharing but he keeps getting a message that the action can't be completed. I'll be happy to help.
Manage your Apple ID -- Make sure you're both able to log into the Apple ID website. This needs to be completed through a browser on a Mac or PC.
Family Sharing -- Even though this is the article that brought you to Apple Support Communities, make sure the device he's using is supported.

Getting set up is simple.

You can use Family Sharing on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 8 or later, your Mac with OS X Yosemite or later and iTunes 12, or your PC with iCloud for Windows.

Set up Family Sharing -- Make certain that the new family group has been set up correctly.

Use these steps to set up Family Sharing. You can start a new family group and invite people to join, or you can join someone else's family group

I was having the same problem trying to et into my dad’s family sharing. I signed out of my dad’s account I the iTunes Store and it worked after that. Maybe it will work for other people out there :)

Make sure each member of the family's iCloud accounts are active and unlocked. I had to delete my daughter, who had created another apple id, and as soon as I did I was able to start sharing.

That works! Thanks so much. ‘Inviting in Person’ is the key. I originally invited my family members through iMessage and had no success.

Hi, you could find the menu here: Apple logo in the top left corner of your desktop\System Preferences\iCloud\Manage Family (below your profile pic)\My Apps & Services\iCloud Storage.

I am currently using High Sierra. If you are on a different OS like Sierra or El Capitan, things might be slightly different but I believe the process will be mostly very similar. Good luck!

I kept getting “page can’t be found” when clicking the invite from my Yahoo Mail app, was able to complete this when I sent the link to an address that open d in the iPhone’s native Mail app. And by complete I mean clicking the details behind the Get Started link opened in my iPhone Settings where I saw the invite in my iCloud menu. Hope this helps.

That might be the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard. I've had it with all these apple bugs. My next phone will be a Samsung.
