Cracked/Fractured camera lens iPhone 7

Has anyone had an issue with a cracked/fractured/ shattered camera lens on an iPhone 7 after having had no amount of trauma to phone i.e. Dropping it/hitting it with a hammer etc etc. This has happened to me the phone has never ever been dropped or otherwise. It has been kept in a good quality case and has a screen protector on from day of purchase. It's in pristine condition.

I Have seen a blog on line suggesting that the purity of the sapphire used on the iphone7 camera lens is questionable and may be contaminated with other substances and therefore reducing the strength and hardness of the sapphire.

Apple Genuis basically told me it's accidental damage which cannot be repaired as the lens is an integral part of the phone casing. So if I paid £289 I can have a replacement phone. If I had accidentally damaged the phone I would put my hands up and admit it but I have not I am a careful lady owner.

HAS ANYBODY ELSE HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE?

iPhone 7, iOS 10.2.1

Hey hi,

I have exact same issue. iPhone 7 plus 128 gb model. I have crack on camera glass not on camera lens. Crack is very small, not properly visible with naked eye. I read a lot about this problem, and as a matter of fact many iphone 7 plus owners are stating similar experience. My case with apple support is going on, I will let you know once there is resolution.

Unlikely that it had anything to do with the flight. I'm quite surprised at your mention of 13,000 feet; that is far lower than normal airline flights, which are typically above 30,000 feet. The actual altitude is not that important however, because all airliners that fly above 10,000 feet are pressurized, and maintain a "cabin altitude" (meaning the normal air pressure at that altitude) under 7,000 feet typically. That's lower than Boulder, Taos, Albuquerque or Santa Fe in the US West. Or most of Switzerland.

I have the exact same issue! The first time i called Apple Support they told me that this cracked glass was fixable, but when a took it to technical service they told me i had to buy a new one, this is insane! because it happened 3 weeks after purchase, and i still haven't pay the complete amount. As I read all the comments I finally feel understood, my iphone also is in perfect conditions, with all the equipment offered by Apple, and no signs of damage, curiously, i left it on my table and suddenly the cristal was cracked.... Please if you know any other solution, let me now, share it please, cause i don't want to spend more money buying a new one.

I have had Apple products and phones for over 9 years and NOTHING has ever scratched or broken.. until the IPhone 7 plus. I had had the phone less than 3 weeks & the camera lens cracked during normal daily use. V frustrating as I bought the phone fir the camera function.

I would agree with you that this is a weakness in comparison to the strength & resilience iPhones normally offer. V disappointing to hear Apple won't help fix it. Hopefully it will be reviewed/revised fir the new phone as this is certainly not tough enough for a regular pocket/hand bag.

All the best, Alice.

My son is five years old and unfortunately for him; he does not understand certain behaviours. He has only just began to talk and his vocabulary is extremely limited.

He can get aggressive when he does not inderstand things or when he is frustrated.

I fail to see why I should pay such a ludicrous amount of money (almost half of what the phone is actually worth) just because I can not always control my young boys disability. If it was a regular occurrence then fair enough! But it is not. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened regarding my phone.

I can only suggest that in the future, unless you actually have experience with disabled children, you should keep your unhelpful comments to yourself.

I accept your misguided response in saying that I am being unrealistic. I respect your opinion even though I think you are amusingly wrong.

Unless you have experience with disabled children; I advise that you keep your unhelpful comments to yourself.

Respond if you would be so kind as to offer some help or insight, otherwise, just keep your comments to yourself to save embarrassing yourself any further and risking coming across as prejudiced towards disabled children.

Not one single word I wrote was at all derogatory nor prejudiced towards anyone. I have no idea what you’re even referring to? And you know nothing at all about my family or the people in my life, or the health and disability situations some of them face.

All I said was that accidental damage to personal property is not the responsibility of the manufacturer nor the retailer. I see nothing wrong, nor incorrect nor inaccurate about that statement. It doesn’t matter who causes the accidental damage or why or under what circumstances. An accident is an accident. We all have to deal with the consequences of accidents in our own lives. It’s not up to anyone else to do that for us.

Don't go there. I HAVE had experience with disabled children; my own. And don't give such an expensive product to any child. An iPhone is not a toy. There are plenty of toys available that your child cannot damage, that are for the most part more appropriate.

Oh, I forgot to mention that my older daughter is a counselor in a home for autistic children.

Firstly, I am sorry to hear that your child/children has a disability. I know only too well how difficult it can be to see somebody you love struggling with what many would consider an everyday activity.

Secondly, I shall excuse your ignorance as I did not clearly state that I had not given my son my phone to play with. I had assumed that was common sense and did not need mentioning. My apologies for that oversight.

Thirdly, my original comment was merely expressing my disapproval of Apples policy regarding what they consider to be an appropiate charge for such a minor repair.

My husband iPhone 7+ just had the same thing happened to him yesterday. We were at the Apple Store in Troy, MI for my phone. He took his phone or of his pocket and the camera lens had a hole in it. He was very surprised because he's never dropped his phone and don't even carry keys in his pockets. But the associate told him he'd have to pay for a new phone at the cost of $349. You can talk that his phone had never been dropped, but that didn't matter to Apple. This is a hard pill to swallow and we will be writing into corporate.

I have also had this issue. Never dropped my phone and one day I noticed a slight crack in the camera lens. It does not affect pictures or the functioning of the phone. However, when taking it to the Apple store they said I would have to pay for a replacement. Now I am trading in my phone through the upgrade program so I wonder if they will accept it or force me to pay the replacement amount?
