Stuck on boot screen after Sierra update
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)
I think the installation/ Upgrade has completed but the Mac has stuck at booting process. It might have been caused by an old driver/ kernel extention (.kext) file which is not compatible with macoS Sierra. There is a similar thread on the same issue. Follow the step that solved it. Try restarting the computer. Hopefully, the upgrade will just pick up. Is this an update for El Capitan or an upgrade to Sierra? I think the latter. If so, then check in your Applications folder to see if the Sierra installer is still there - Install macOS X Sierra. If rebooting doesn't get you back on track, then just restart the Sierra installer.
I have exactly the same problem... updating a MacBook Air 2001 to Sierra.
The only difference is the screen is white and black, and not black and whist as the picture from Toruwara.
The macworld article does not help much.
Cmd + L does not work
What can I do?
Many Thanks in advance
Thanks Eric Root for replying.
I did the shutdown and restart, it back exactly where it was before the shutdown, although stuck again there for 6 hours. I did the shutdown again and restart, but nothing changed, the Mac back at the same situation and still there.
So, what now?
PS: missing you Steve!
You are welcome. I'd let it run overnight and if it still isn't installed, try booting into the Recovery Partition (command - R on a restart) and see if you can install it there or restore from Time Machine. If that doesn't work, try booting into Internet Recovery (command - option/alt - R on a restart) and install the OS the computer shipped with. You can upgrade from there.
I to have this issue. From verbose startup, last 3 lines state:
IO80211Interface: updateReport _peerManager is missing
IOConsolUsers: time(0) 0->, Lin 0, Lik 1,
IOConsolUsers: gIOScreenLockState 3, 0 hs ....(something so small I can't read it.)
Cheers,
Steven
Shut down the computer using the power button and then restart.
