iTunes won't download podcasts

- Using Windows 10 on a PC

- iTunes version 12.6.0.100

I am trying to download new podcasts via the iTunes app on Windows PC. However, every time I click "Get" on a podcast, it does nothing. It doesn't download it at all. If I double-click, it will stream the podcast, but it won't download. I used to get a little notification in the top of iTunes between the search bar and the "up next" playlist button that would let me see the status of my downloads. It never appears.

I have restarted both iTunes and my computer, and it still isn't fixed.

Thanks for your time.

UPDATE:

I have talked to Apple support. They were initially unable to help, but eventually I got someone competent and we worked on it together. We were unable to solve the problem during the initial session, but he contacted the Apple engineers and they came up with a workaround. I have copy-pasted our chat session below containing the workaround in its entirety, but I'll summarize it here:

Go to iTunes Store, find the podcast station you want to download the podcast from, subscribe.

Next, go to top of screen where there is three sections: Library, Unplayed, Store.

Click on Library.

Go down to the bottom, click on the dropdown bar next to "Show" and make sure it says "Feed"

Find the podcast you recently subscribed to and click on the dropdown arrow just before its name.

Click the Blue iCloud icon next to the individual podcast(s) you want to download.

Great fix. Thank you. I had never used the "Feed" view option. It's great for catching up on old podcasts when I want to start from the beginning. A quick subscribe/unsubscribe gives me the full list of available episodes and I can tick them all easily from my Library instead of having to click "Get" on every episode in the Store. Maybe I don't care if they ever fix it... 😉

i tried the different fixes this morning. I too do not have the "show" option, but I do have the feed option, and the "feed" fix is working for me. Today I got a notice of an update, but it is for "12.6", no mention of .100+. I did a Google search and I'm told that .100 released March 25th is the latest version, so I am doing any updating now.

ℹ i just got out of a apple chat and this is what happened to me:

i just wanted to listen to 1 episode of a podcast show but not subscribe, for me also the "get" button isnt working in 12.6.

so while in chat; i discovered i had to:

1) subscribe to the podcast

2) go to the library for your podcasts; click the "feed" button to get the list of all the podcast shows from that creator

3) find the episode i wanted

4) click the "arrow cloud" button to download . . .

5) . . . it downloads

6) moved it to my "Podcast" playlist

i told this to the apple rep; and this seems like this is the only workaround until this issue is patched.

i havent "unsubscribed" just in case it all falls apart and i dont have my download anymore; so i didnt want to risk it.

hope this helps you!!

In addition to sharing the same experience, I've also found that I cannot download more than a few episodes. In other words, if I subscribe to a podcast and want download 12 past episodes, I have to sit at the computer as ITunes 12.6 only allows me to click on 3 or 4 podcasts from the dozen past podcasts. I then have to wait to manually download another 3 episodes. Really sad.

Same thing for me with Windows 7. I can neither download podcast nor access the iTunes store.

I knew I should not have taken the update, especially given the fubar the last update caused with my iTouch, which caused me to have to click every single song in my library to put it back on my player. I am pretty sure I messed it up trying to use a backup library to do a restore.

I guess I should not be surprised by Apple not checking that its product works with a PC even though a fair # of iTunes users use PCs. I already do not buy music from them because it became a hassle at one point. It is obvious then iTunes does not beta test software updates (yes I know it is not just iTunes that does not do it).

I wonder when I will get tired of unsupported Apple software and ditch my iPlayer all together?
