After the last System upgrade to 10.11.6/El Capitan on my older Powerbook, the very useful ClarisWorks program became an orphan--I've got lots of documents (.cwk format), but can't run the program... Will PAGES import or open them?? Help me, Obi-wan!

Pages '09 will open AppleWorks v6 word processing documents, Numbers '09 will open AppleWorks v6 spreadsheets, and Keynote '09 will open AppleWork's presentations. ClarisWorks v5, and complex variations of these preceding document types will not open in Pages '09 applications. Pages '09 was the last Pages version to support opening these documents.
As Kappy mentioned, there is support in LibreOffice (v5.3.1.2 fresh as of this post) that opens some ClarisWorks v5, and AppleWorks v6 word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation documents. Databases will open as a spreadsheet with formating and formulas lost. Some drawing documents can be opened too.
Again, depending on how many ClarisWorks/AppleWorks features that you used in each document will have a direct bearing on your degree of success in opening them. LibreOffice is not an ClarisWorks/AppleWorks replacement application, and the intent is to save them into more transportable, modern document formats.

I had to put the AppleWorks v6.2.9 document on an SDHC card for transfer between Macs. When attempting to take advantage of iCloud Drive, the document icon appeared differently, when viewed from Sierra, and Pages '09 v4.3 could not recognize the document to open it. LibreOffice v5.3.1.2 succeeded.
The same document could be opened from iCloud Drive by Pages '09 v4.3 from El Capitan.
Not that I have many AppleWorks files that I haven't converted, but I have not had a problem opening AW6 word processing files in Pages 4.3, spreadsheets in Numbers 2.3 nor presentations in Keynote 5.3 in any OS from Tiger to Sierra on a variety of Macs.
It might via the Import option. Pages supposedly opens AppleWorks docs. You might also try using Libre Office.
Last software to let you open Clarisworks documents was Pages '09 running on Snow Leopard on a compatible Mac.
