iTunes Frozen/Unresponsive

When I try to open up itunes, it opens up, but has the loading icon on my mouse and dosn't respond to any actions. To close it down I have to close it via task manager. When I try to open a song/pocast via it's file location, itunes dosn't respond for several minutes untill then file randomly begins playing, but I cannnot stop it or use itunes. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that dosn't help. I'm on the latest version of itunes, it's the only program that's behaving this way on my computer and my OS is Windows 7.

I am having many of the issues everyone else has stated. iTunes takes about ten minutes to open. After it opens, unable to connect to iTunes or app stores. Can't update latest versions of apps updates because of this. Removed iTunes and reinstalled. Still the same. I contacted Apple support through email. Finally received an response. The standard basic first steps most of us try before reaching out for help: make sure Windows has the latest updates, make sure you are installing the latest iTunes update, remove iTunes and reinstalled, turn off your antivirus, so on and so on. I have not seen any of the suggestions others have provided that has helped anyone.

In iTunes I went to the help menu and clicked on Run diagnostics. Only checked the "Network connectivity test". Have an red dot next to "Secure link to iTunes Store failed". Clicking on the Help button next to it takes you to a blank Help screen. You click Help again and iTunes usually closes. Clicking on the next button will allow you to copy the Diagnostics test. I do not know what all the information means but I think there is something in there that might be causing the problem (like something under the "**** Runtime Libraries ***" or another area is missing or needs deleted). Since I can't connect to the iTunes store that might be why iTunes is taking so long to load and not working properly. The forth to the last line on the diagnostics test reads "Basic connection to the store failed." I have checked my firewalls and they are open to let Bonjour and iTunes connect. I going to post my diagnostics results. If you see REMOVED in the line, well I removed that information just in case of possible security reasons. Sorry so long. Hopefully someone understands this stuff better than myself and can help iTunes work again. Here the diagnostics:

Thanks. I had previously rolled back to 12.6.0.95, but it didn't work. Rolling back to 12.5.5.5 has allowed iTunes to start. I had to archive the iTunes Library.itl file as it was created with the previous installations. Once I did that, 12.5.5.5 started up fine, and I'm listening to tunes again. Hopefully the next release is less problematic.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that my iTunes has resumed working. I don't know if they updated it recently but today I uninstalled all programs related to iTunes and downloaded the newest version. I also changed the folder location of iTunes from my Program Files to Program Files (x86) (Doubt it had anything to do with it but thought I should mention it).

If you had upgraded from iTunes 12.5.5.5 or earlier to the current build of 12.6.0.95/100 then the Previous iTunes Libraries folder would have been created if it didn't already exist and the backup of the database would have been made as part of the first run of the build. You've mentioned the names of files, which are not the same kinds of objects.

If this is a new installation of iTunes and no older .itl files can be found then just do steps 8 & 9 and then start iTunes. It will create a new empty library into which you can add your media.

I have this problem with iTunes 12.6 as well, also running Microsoft Windows 7 x64 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1. I tried everything on the recommended troubleshooting. Uninstall/Re-install, clean boot, registry edits, etc.

In the end, the only thing that fixed it was uninstalling and then installing an older version of iTunes. Which I guess means I need to hold off on updating my iPhone so that it will continue to cooperate with iTunes. Hopefully the next release fixes this.

Okay, I did this all again and this time I am able to get itunes to open. Not sure why it didn't work when I tried this way with the tech. But now all my music is missing. The folder that resides on my computer (where it always did) does not have all my music in it.

My question is if I connect my ipod or ipad to my computer is it going to lose all the music, movies on my ipad and ipod???

Apr 27, 2017 3:30 PM in response to turingtest2

Upon further rooting around my computer, I found my music and my movies. I have now copied them into itunes.

I just reopened itunes and it's still all there. Thanks for asking me to try again. I tried this afternoon (I figured what the heck could it hurt to try one more time). For now I will leave this version til apple comes up with some update....but will be wary to load that one up.
