Graphic issues after update to 10.12.4 (16E195)

I've updated my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15', Mid 2015) this morning, sometimes when I'm returning to the MacBook after the stand-by mode (my displays are turning off after 15 minutes) was active I've got some weird graphic issues. This problem didn't exist (some hours ago) with the previous versions of macOS Sierra.

Only pressing power button for some seconds (reboot) can help in this situation.

Did already someone expect same issues already? My MBP has 2 graphic chips (Intel Iris for low usage and a AMD Radeon R9 M370X for high usage), I think the Iris chip was working at this time.

Hi Alexander,

I understand that when you wake your MacBook Pro from sleep, the external displays that you have hooked up show a distorted image. I'm happy to provide some help for this issue.

While this article isn't necessarily for your issue, some of the steps are still helpful for your problem:

If your Mac doesn't sleep or wake when expected - Apple Support

These additional steps may help identify or resolve the issue:

  • Reset the SMC.
  • Reset NVRAM.
  • Disconnect external devices other than your Apple keyboard, mouse, and display. If that resolves the issue, gradually reconnect your devices, testing each time, until you find the device that is interfering with sleep. Then check the documentation that came with the device, or contact the device manufacturer.
  • Start up in Safe Mode to see if the issue is related to non-Apple startup items, login items, or kernel extensions.
  • Try to isolate the issue by using another user account.

Additionally, I would recommend going through the steps provided here:

I'm having some problems after this update as well. Twice the computer has frozen completely, needing Cmd-Alt-Power for 10 seconds to restart. A few times it's slowed to a crawl, and I've experienced graphics corruption. The only change I made after upgrade was to enable Night Shift. I've turned it off to see if it will make a difference, though my most recent issues were in the morning, when it wouldn't be enabled anyway.

Well, turns out that I've got the same issue with MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016).

Version 10.12.3 was working fine, after the update I'm getting several glitches that produces red zones on the screen.

It's even managed to capture it using the default System Screen Capture:

Also this one:

This appears to happen just when I attach external displays, note on regular only notebook usage.

Regards.

PS: Please don't come with the "Reset PRAM" or the other usual ****, this is a bug!

I have this same issue and I'm not using any external devices or screens. I would like to downgrade to 10.12.3 but in my work computer the company does not have Time Machine enabled (yes, I know…). So I'm trying to go ahead and go through this until a fix is released.

In my case it happens all around the screen but sometimes specially in some panels in Adobe software which I use at work, usually the Creative Cloud Library panel (see image). Also when it goes wild, windows are rendered black and you can't use anything since you can't see buttons or else, but they are there (the pointer usually works, and you can see it change normally).

I have also a graphic issue after updating to 10.12.4 (16E195) last night (Thursday, March 30). The main display glitch from time to time especially the icons in the dock. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) and have no issues with it during more than 1 year that I am using it.

The glitch is more dominant when the system wake up from sleep but also happens from time to time afterwards.

Is there anyway to recover to old version, since that one works perfect?

Hello,

i have the same pb with the new Macbook Pro 2016 15"

My pb is only related to the radeon 450 because using gfxcard and blocking the use on intel hd graphic 530 I have no pb with the display.

For info, I'm on Macbook pro 2016 15 "

And I have this pb only since the upgrade in 10.12.4

Could you help me or tell me how to downgrade to 10.12.3

I am also seeing problems with internal/external display switching with the new drivers. Now when restarting the laptop closed with an external display using a dock it does correctly work and even rotate the display. But then you cannot use the laptop undocked at all without restarting. So there are definitely switching problems with the new software.

I have noticed two direct things with display after updating to this exact release.

1. DisplayLink monitors only display when you are actively using them and have a super hard time repainting. (This has never been and issue in the past)

2. Scroll bars render very strangely; a lot of time content content sits below or on top of scroll bars. I have noticed that this is only when a track pad is in use; If I close my laptop and use a mouse the scroll bars render differently and the issue goes away.

Granted these two things are unlike your issue but instability of display is a general feeling I get after updating to this version. So I commiserated with you.
