iOS 10.3 upgrade not working on 5c

I have a iPhone 5c (me556ll/a) purchased through Amazon and on the Verizon Wireless network. It will not upgrade to iOS 10.3? Unless these articles that profess 5c is eligible are wrong, what gives??

Sometimes the 32bit versions of iOS are slow to release over the air. If you connect your phone into iTunes, you'll see the update. Otherwise it may be a day or two before your phone shows it as available. Sometimes doing a hard reset can force the update to appear, press and hold the home button and sleep/wake button at the same time for 10 seconds until the apple logo appears, then try the update again.

What gives you the right to act as a censor here, jmgrlc? 😠

If Briandr73 is upset over this, then he is upset. And he has the right to express that feeling here since it's relevant to the topic, and not expressed in a bad manner. Life is not only about blowing rainbows and unicorns out of … Support sites are often about problems – you know.

Besides, having a rapid user adoption of system updates is a particularly strong aspect of the Apple community. And also something Apple themselves support. So, this is important, and people buy in on that quality concept. Of course it causes reaction if suddenly not working, especially if some users/customers are affected more than others.

I have a 5s and I'm having issues too. I'm able to download the update, but when attempting to install, I get an error message stating, "Unable to Install Update" "An error occurred installing iOS 10.3." I've tried updating about 8 or so times now. The same behavior occurs every time.

I found a few articles that recommended:

  1. Switch to airplane mode, turn off your phone, wait 10 seconds, turn phone back on, turn off airplane mode, try again.
  2. Reset your phone by holding the Home and power buttons at the same time
  3. Reset your network settings
  4. Delete the update via "Manage Storage" and try again
  5. Try updating via iTunes

I've tried each of these, and the behavior hasn't changed. The iTunes method wouldn't work at all. I plug my phone into my MacBook and it gives me an "Update" button for my phone, but clicking the button does nothing. It doesn't even show the button being pressed or anything.

At this point I'll probably give it a day, I was just excited for the storage updates, as my phone has had storage issues since the update before last. Good luck to everyone else having this issue!

This doesn't help your situation, but one of my coworkers is experiencing the very same thing on his iPhone 5. I have an iPhone 5s and it is shwoing that the update is available for me. I have not installed it yet, but the phone is eligible for the update and yours and my coworker's phones should be as well.

No one is suggesting you need to get a new phone, at least a dozen of us have told you the same thing. The update is available in iTunes, it may take a day or two for it to show up over the air. This is a simple solution and not worth getting worked up over. Chill out and follow the instructions we have given you, it will solve your problem.

Make sure iTunes is version 12.6, otherwise it will not show up. Secondly 32-bit hardware isn't going to be supported much longer, but iOS 10 still supports 5/5c devices. the ÔTA update was pulled today for 32bit devices, so it is possible that there was an issue with the delta update. Just connect the device to iTunes version 12.6 or above and it'll pop up.

And to assuage the moderators who got rid of my last comment, I did not provide information that wasn't publicly available then (please check about 100 YouTube videos about it). And now I am not even referring to that information base. I take my NDA seriously as a developer, and the person I was resonding to was trying to use a help forum to dis-parage the company, and the hardware no matter how much help we attempted to give him. Please moderate correctly when tu comes to people who are trying to hela the community.
