Does iPhone 7 support AVRCP?

I have new bluetooth headphones from Outdoor Tech with Bluetooth 4.0 that I love. But the volume up/down buttons do not work. The FAQ states to check if the phone supports AVRCP. I am having trouble finding information on this ... perhaps defective headphones but perhaps incompatibility or ?? Help please.
