For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling it may help to right-click on the setup file and use Run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

OK, so this sounds like either a flaky connection or some kind of permissions problem. The device is correctly detected and displayed in iTunes. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows and apply the permissions fix to the source folder. Try another cable. Try some other function like backing up the device. Will that complete normally?

I did reinstall iTunes already twice, following the instructions to do a clean reinstall. I do not think it wille be feasible to go on with reinstalling.

About looking into iTunes setup.exe: I get the option between "repair" and "reinstall", but the repair button does not work.

Then I went to control panel and tried to do "repair" in the installed iTunes program. It started "repairing" but without any result according to the backup option of my iPad.

So my conclusion is: iTunes is a too complicated program for me to use, and I will stop further efforts to make it working. Another disappointment for me is that ebooks and pdf's are no longer supported, and ebooks and pdf's were the only thing I used it for on my laptop.

Many thanks for your help.

When I connect the iPad, it shows in iTunes. When I try to make a copy, the little wheel starts to whirl and iTunes says the copy is being made. But then it stops and I get the message that the iPad is disconnected. Which it isn't.

The system language in the PC is Spanish, and in my iPad Dutch, but this has never given any problems until now.

And no, I just installed iTunes in the same path.

If iTunes has apparently installed without error, and devices appear in iTunes when it runs then the application and drivers are probably OK, however you were insisting the AMDS and the driver be replaced which is why I recommended the process.

Have you tried running iTunes in administrator mode?

Have you tried temporarily disabling any non-Microsoft anti-virus software?
