virus bootcamp

Hi guys. Yesterday I scanned my mac with and aniti virus and it said I had a Virus "js decode ccz" I could'nt delete it and when I quarantined it , it just showed up again the next time I scanned it. It showed that the virus was in the bootcamp files that that I have, So the times I scanned it after i just scanned the bootcamp files I have. So I went onto the windows partition and did a scan and it did show a virus a " activation scam" so I deleted the virus and sanned again and nothing. Then I went back onto mac os and scanned again but it's still showing this js decode ccz. Its saying that it is in some microsoft edge file. Any ideas to what could be going on ? thanks !!!!!

currently no virus exist in the wild for OS X, but a Mac booting to Windows OS is susceptible to any Windows infection just as much as any other type of Personal Computer. There are a number of Windows Anti Virus products that are free, most if not all of them will spam you with ads while they run but they should be able to disinfect your Windows drive.

If you add an AV product to Windows from a reputable developer the findings here on these forums is those developers do not always make a stable or completely "honest" Apple version. Running AV on the OS X side of the computer has been found to cause far more problems then they purport to fix at this time. Your mac should not be used to intercept Windows infections. Windows AV products have had far more development, support and testing devoted to their cause. The OS X offerings are not there yet in functionality or necessity.

Hi Jimmy, thank you for taking the time to replay to my question. I did a scan on my windows side with windows defender and it did come up with a virus so I deleted it. Then to be sure I downloaded norton power eraser, this did a root kit search, then searched for threats and it came up empty. Then I downloaded Sophos virus removal and this search came up empty as well. Then to be sure I did another defender Scan and this came up empty as well. But when I scanned on my mac side it came up with this virus still. So I quarantined it again for the 5th time.

Maybe I should just deleted windows altogether ?

This is what my anti virus shows after the scan.

If the virus is in a file on the Windows drive then the Windows drive is almost certainly in NTFS format, this format can be read by the Mac but cannot be written to. Hence any Mac anti-virus tool will not be able to cleanup i.e. remove the virus from the Windows drive.

If the virus is on the Mac drive then normally the Mac anti-virus software should be able to remove it. As a starter it would help to have the full file path of its location. Perhaps the easiest solution if it is on the Mac side would be to manually delete it using Terminal.app.

If it is on the Windows side you need to clean it up from the Windows side.
