NIGHT SHIFT issue on Mac Pro with 2 external monitors

Hi, I have issue with my Mac Pro (6,1/6c/16GB/D500/256GB) and two external monitors(1-PHILIPS BDM4065uc and 2-EIZO EV233W). The issue is that when I startup with only main monitor (1), there is no Night Shift (NS) switch in Preferences/Displays or in the Notification center, BUT the colors on the monitor are WARM! Even though I did not able NS and restart/power up from state where NS was turned off. But when I turn on second monitor(2), the NS switch magically show up in Notification Center AND in the Preferences/Displays/EV2333W window (but still not at PHL BDM4065). So I switch on nad off the NS to get normal (colder) colors on both monitors.

BUT when I turn off the second monitor(2) I get warm colors on my main monitor(1) back and the NS switch disappear!!!

note:

I definitelly don't want NS function at all. I'm working with videos and I don't need any color changes since I made color calibration on both monitors..

Have some of you experienced something familiar or does anybody work out any solution (terminal command for disabling NS etc.)..?

Thanks guys.

Professional monitors are regularly calibrated using expensive software, hardware and work time. I don't care if they are not supported. I don't want them to be supported.

The fact you can't completely disable Nightshift is simple, pure and inconsiderate folly.

Refer to ISO 3664:2009 "Graphic technology and photography -- Viewing conditions" for more informations.

Thank you anyway for you advice.

Usually one can disable/enable these types of things via terminal, even if the preference is no available. Unfortunately, a quick google did not show that.

However, I did see this thread that outlines how to force "compatibility" with Night Shift so that you see the tab in System Preferences->Displays.

I realize you do not want your calibrated monitor to use Night Shift, but hopefully you can then set it to disabled (and it actually stays disabled).

This same problem here at my work, and it's aggravating! We are the A/V department for a very large tech company and we can't update ANY of the computers in any of our event centers. We are stuck at 10.12.3 until a fix is issued

In our setups we use KVM systems with split outputs from each mac, so effectively it's as if each mac has dual external displays. The problem is even worse for us than has been described. Night shift is on 24/7, not just at night. Turning it "off" makes no difference. The only fix is to toggle the nightshift slider up and down to get it to recognize that it should be "off." Changing resolution instantly warms the screen back up.

Oh, and to make things even worse, "off" is not truly off! It still slightly warms the screen, as we've confirmed by taking white stills (Directors Switcher) from a Mac on 10.12.3 and taking the same white still from a Mac on 10.12.6 with nightshift turned off and the slider brought all the way down. The "off" version of night shift is still warmer than true colors!

Hi folks,

days ago I ran into the same issue like you, sadly!

So far I did my image processing on a windws PC with an EIZO CG243W monitor calibrated with x-rite iOne pro and EIZO's ColorNavigator sw and all works fine. I'm using a completely color calibrated workflow from scanning with my Imacon (Hasselbald) Flextight scanner, PS CC and an ESPON A2 printer.

Because I'm also owning a 15'' MBP late 2013 with built-in 2MB Nvidia GeForce 16 GB RAM and 500 GB SSD (just as virtualization plattform so far), I decided to put my old windows PC to the garbage and move my image processing to my MBP. All things work fine with just one exeception: the unability to really get rid of the NightShift nightmare. Currently I'm running macOS Sierra 10.12.6.

When swithing the color space in the EIZO ColorNavigator sw the system (MBP) switches to the 'right' color space for about 100 ms or 200 ms (can be seen on changing background color and the color of icons in the dock just for a small moment). Then, after this really small moment it switches back to a light warmer color, like seeing the desktop through a light yellow/orange filter.

Anyway what I'm adjusting in the nightmare (excuse me, NightShift) settings I'm not able to disable it totally and get the colors I hw calibrated on the external monitor before with the EIZO ColorNavigator sw.

So until waiting for an OS fix or update by Apple itself I'd like to know what workaround(s) you guys are using when you need a reliable color calibrated system.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, because I didn't get any answer so far I had to support myself :-(((

I performed the following workaround to get a correctly color calibrated system containing my MBP, EIZO CG243W and ColorNavigator 6.4.19 .

With Boot Camp-Assistent (BCA) I installed Windows 8.1 on a free partition of my built-in SSD device, installed ColorNavigar 6.4.19 for Windows on it and got my (Windows) system reliable color calibrated within a few minutes after installation. Now I'm able again to switch between different color spaces by choosing them in ColorNavigator and directly see the changes on the desktop - without any light yellow/orange overlay added!

Sadly, I had to went back to the point and system I actually want to leave: Windows.

But as far as I get no fitting answers, support, fixes, patches or updates/upgrades from Apple and EIZO related to my problem I've to use my 3k € MBP to run Windows if I'd like to work with a really (hardware) color calibrated monitor. Not to talk about the additional Adobe CC license(s) required for Windows ...

What a pitty, Apple & EIZO - I'm deeply disappointed! The same problems well know from Windows over decades. I thought buying an Apple would lead out of the **** of manufactuer support. How stupid I've been!

FYI, this issue continues to persist in macOS High Sierra (10.13). I upgraded with the hope that I would not get a yellow tinge every time I plug my PHILIPS BDM4065UC 4K monitor into my mid-2015 Macbook Pro or when I wake the laptop from standby, but no such luck.

Even though Night Shift is not officially support on this monitor, it starts out in night shift mode every time, regardless of the time of day or whether Night Shift is disabled for the built-in display. The only way to get rid of Night Shift is to enable it in the Notification Center and then disable it again. Until the next time.

Time to submit another bug report. :-)
