reverse synching?

let's say I've downloaded some movies, transferred them to my ipod, and then they were accidently deleted from the computer hard drive. Is there a way to reverse synch from my ipod to a computer if that computer is one of my authorized computers?

If not, what am I supposed to do if I lose a movie or song I've purchased off my computer?

If you purchased your media from the iTunes Store then you can do this:

Here are the steps to "reverse sync" purchases from your iPod.

1. Make sure that you are using the latest version of iTunes 7 and iPod software.
2. Authorize your computer by choosing Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes.
3. Attach your iPod to the computer that contains purchases.
4. From the File menu, choose Transfer Purchases from iPod.

Hi,

I just got an iPod Shuffle as a Christmas gift. It was demonstrated to me, and I was told I could transfer the files from the iPod Shuffle to my PC hard drive. Upon reading what little documentation Apple provides, there was mention of a Transfer button in iTunes to transfer the files from the iPod Shuffle to the hard drive. HoweveR, I looked all over for it and couldn't find it. (the Shuffle came full with about 250 songs). I wanted to save the songs on the Shuffle to the drive so I could put my own music on the Shuffle. Obviously I didn't want to destroy the music that was given to me.

I'm beginning to suspect (I hope I'm wrong!) that Apple only provides a way to load music off of a particular PC onto the Shuffle. If one tries to move that music onto a hard drive the software won't allow it, and the "Transfer" button doesn't display anywhere because of that. Given that there are 250 songs on this device (say at 99 cents each) there is what I'm beginning to suspect is enormous greed, both from Apple, and from the entertainment industry that has devised this way to scam the consumer big time. Nowhere, that I'm able to find so far, do they explain with any clarity that they are "protecting" copyrights with this process. As far as I'm concerned, this is part of the SCAM. They want you to believe this is an easy process of putting your favorite music onto an iPod Shuffle, and possibly moving it to another PC. If their real intent is to hide the fact that this cannot be done, and to imply that it can be, I find this to be highly DISHONEST.

And I say..."If their real intent is to hide the fact that this cannot be done, and to imply that it can be, I find this to be highly DISHONEST."

Inotherwords, Apple, in striving to move product, is SCAMMING those who have no intention of cheating talented music artists out of income from their work by not fully disclosing the process of acquiring and storing music.

Once again, files purchased from iTunes Store can go from iPod to computer. Ipods do not come preloaded with music. If yours did then it needs to be authorized using the same credentials used to purchase the music.

No scam involved. The one way transfer is intentional to limit/make harder the illegal transfer of music between computers. If you own both computers then transfer the files another way.

That is a waste of effort on apple's part. if someone wanted to take music off their ipod, they will find a way. if you rli want to know how to do it, simply enable hidden files to be seen and go thru ur ipod til u find ipod_control folder. then copy it on ur desktop, and then add that folder to itunes and have it automatic rename and copy into ur itunes music folder. thats the easiest way invovling no third party software.

Was what i just said not easy? Takes all of 1 minute to find folder, copy and paste. then load into itunes. the computer does the rest. so what are u trying to say? and how do music/video companies ALLOW content on? If i bought it i should be able to do whatever i want with it as long as its for personal private use. i can put it anywhere i want. they dont ahve to "allow" me to.
