Why can't I update Apple ID settings?

I have just installed IoS 10.3. At the top of the settings screen there is a red number (1) by Update Apple ID Settings. I have done everything required, but the red number won't go away. Does this matter?

OK, it sounds like whatever is causing you to see "Update Apple ID Settings ..." is the root of the issue.


  • Have you recently changed your Apple ID or Apple ID password? If so, follow this carefully. What to do after you change your Apple ID email address or password - Apple Support
  • Might you have some items purchased using a different Apple ID from the iTunes Store (e.g., music, apps, books)? If so, consider ferreting those out and removing them from your iPhone.
  • These places require you to sign in using your Apple ID. You might consider signing out and back in on your iPhone in the appropriate section of Settings.
    • The main place at the top of Settings that shows your Apple ID
    • iTunes & App Store
    • Wallet & Apple Pay
    • iCloud
    • Messages > Send & Receive
    • FaceTime
