Apple themselves have not released any Waterproof Products EVER.

Like in Healthcare - I am coming from Hospitality and am tasked with the same Challenge for Areas like Pools, Bar Areas, etc. for Applications like Table Reservation Systems or Food & Beverage Ordering.

I have so far not heard back from Lifeproof or Otterbox

about compatibility of their Case Range for the 2017 Models.

Apple has dubbed the current Base Model as 5th Gen.

Perhaps check with your Local Apple Reseller, to get hold of Apple Air Models coming back from Leasing & put them into one of the compatible Lifeproof Cases - these iPads are iOS10 / iOS 11 compatible and would do what you need them for.

I am currently refreshing Apple iPads and take all "Air" Models aside for the above mentioned Operations to have some SPARE Stock, until Lifeproof & Otterbox HOPEFULLY provide an iPad Case for currrent / Future Models or Apple to provide an IP67 or higher Model in the Future.

I'd contact the Lifeproof folks. I'd expect them to be more forthcoming than Apple.

It takes time for third parties to update their stuff. Don't know how much notice Apple give to third parties on new device form factor. I assume third party firms evaluate how profitable they expect their product to be too.

I've had this same issue with a customer recently.

All current cases for iPad Air 2 will not fit the new iPad as the new iPad is thicker in depth.

However, you can take the iPad Pro 9.7in and put it in an iPad Air 2 case. If you can afford the $200 difference in price, that can temporarily solve your problem until an ETA on the new device is available.

Depending on your needs, you can use the FutureNova FlipPad and Lifeproof's NUUD.

There are some upscale durable cases available for Apple iDevices to include

iPhone, iPad, etc from reputable maker brands such as pelican, etc. To be sure

that a specific one has case designed just for it may require contacting maker

and ask for details per your iPad model; and ask about dealers, warranties, etc.

There is a series that suggests 5-layer protection; perhaps the one named 'marine'

worth a look. Other rugged-ized or outdoor conditions resistant brands exist; the

only drawback may be price. There may (or not) be volume scaled discounts.

If looking to buy a new(ish) iPad, check to see the model you get isn't one that has

been discontinued. {Although we've no insider news about upcoming changes, or

if we did wouldn't be able to suggest, some resellers have new-old-stock.} So if you

seek forward mobility and iOS upgrades, newer apps, etc. compare models at the

online Apple Store.

the cost for an iPad model may be prohibitive. To contact a maker

& speak directly to a person would be better than their site offering.

The iPad 9.7 has the same form factor as the iPad Air, however the volume buttons have been moved and the camera position has slightly changed.

I just replaced my son's iPad Air with the new iPad 5th Gen. The sizes are identical but there are a couple of things that don't align. The camera for instance, doesn't center but works fine. The biggest problem is that the newest iPad doesn't have a mute button (the iPad Air does), which means that when I placed the new iPad into the lifeproof case it depressed the up volume button. The workaround for this was to pop out the mute button on the lifeproof. The headphone jack and the power buttons aren't affected. If you can get hold of iPad Air lifeproof cases that is your only option at this stage. I tried to contact lifeproof to get an ETA for delivery for the new iPad but there was no response yet.

There are not many options out there even now after 3 months. The good new is that The Joy Factory is now shipping their fully enclosed water resistant aXtion CWA602 case for the iPad 5th generation now. The updated date on the waterproof case is now pushed out to Sept/Oct. Also, the word is Lifeproof case version might not come out for the iPad 5th generation version.

The new iPads are the same form factor as the old iPad Airs. You could look and see if any cases that fit those devices are available anywhere. I would bet places like CDW still have some.
