ios 10.3 data network 2g/3g/4g

Hello, I have a problem after recent update.. i cant choose what network my phone to connect 2g/3g/4g

when there is a poor 3g signal but good 2g.. still the phone is looking for 3g and i am not getting call with less signal strength but still the phone is looking for 3g .. i dont have option to choose 2g

In earlier version of iosi had some thing like settings--> mobile data --> mobile data options ---> veoice & data --> 4g

3g 2g

I can choose any of these when the device is not able to choose which type of network to connect to.. but the latest update does not contain these options.

The ability to choose networks is determined by your cellular carrier. The carrier file on your phone contains information from your carrier on what choices to allow you to make with the phone. Most of the choices are automatic. You also need to understand that most cellular carriers are discontinuing their 2G networks, so that is probably why you are not seeing the choice any longer. Discuss this with your carrier if you need further explanation.

This is a problem that has recurred after iOS 8 update. There are many countries where Apple has a huge customer base where the signal 3G strength varies depending on the population density. The network dips in 3G mode. After there was the issue raised, apple enabled 2G switch. This has to be done almost immediately! I have this issue and imagine, I have spent all my savings and bought iPhone 7 yesterday after using iPhone 5 for years. How do I use the phone in such a situation? Please update the iOS enabling 2G option!

If you will read the Apple Recommended post above, it isn't about Apple. The carriers are the ones that determine what you can choose and not choose. Most carriers are dismantling their 2G networks anyway, so they will not be available in the future. Contact your carrier about them only allowing 3G settings, and demand that they enhance their infrastructure. They are the ones you need to be complaining to.

Hi Chris, thank you for the quick response. I agree to your point that networks have been switching to3G and doing away with 3G. But, the point being the availability of the option to switch to 2G when required. It is also true that there is a huge population base which relies on 2G for seamless voice connectivity. If the case was that there were no issues with the network, Apple wouldn't have agreed to release during the upgrade around iOS 8 an option to switch not only between 3G to 4G (which was initially the case) but 2G too. It would help immensely if this is taken care of without fail. Thanks a lot for your answer!

As I indicated earlier, this is the point you are addressing. And, as I answered earlier, that option is controlled by the carrier, and the carrier file they release through Apple for your device. Apple does not determine what bands your phone connects to from the carrier. That is determined by the carrier and the ability to make individual selections, as well as the ability to make APN changes lies completely within the purview of the carrier. They determine settings for cellular and enforce that with the carrier file they release and install on your device. As Tim has also mentioned, consult your carrier. They are the sole factor determining this ability.

Are you paying attention at all to what is being told to you? We know what you are saying, we know what it looks like, you need to understand what all of us are telling you. It is not Apple, it is the carrier. You can repeat yourself over and over and it is not going to change the fact. The fact is your carrier pushed a carrier file to your device which has changed your ability to choose. Take that up with your carrier. They provide the file to Apple, and it goes out when you do updates. Talk to your carrier. End of story.

We are talking about the option to chose a network in the iOS-version. I had the option to choose the 2G network yesterday, using iOS 10.3.1. I updated to version 10.3.2 and the option to choose between 4/3/2G was gone. Can't believe the complete 2G network is eliminated in a single day and this iOS-update has nothing to do with it...

As a matter of fact, the website of my carrier says it still supports 2G-network true the whole country. IT HAS TO BE THIS UPDATE. Stop deniing it and do some research before saying we are wrong and blaming carriers. It's just a simple option that isn't there anymore after the last update. Would appreciate it if you take care this option is back with the next update

Two things.

1) You are wrong.

2) You are not speaking to Apple.

Hi Chris,

I use Airtel in India and spoke with my carrier and they mentioned that this is something that is pertaining to the device / manufacturer and only Apple would be able to support regarding this.

Technically speaking I agree with this since this option was existing in my phone and after an update it had disappeared. This has happened once before as well (October 2014) however at that time it had become available in the subsequent update by Apple.

It should really be consumer's discretion on which network he / she wants to use instead of carrier or phone manufacturer dictating the same.
