Is it possible to play ipod without itunes on laptop?

I have a work laptop but the company frowns upon "foreign" programs being installed and routinely checks when we are logged on through our VPN. Is it possible to play the ipod through the laptop with out installing itunes? I've installed the ipod but have not been able to access any songs. I just get the instructions folder.

dell, Windows XP

ok heres what u have to do.

1.Pulg in ipod
2.Open up my computer
3.Open your ipods folder
4.IMPORTANT!in the menu where its says "file" ect. select tools/folder options
5.in the new little window select view
6.than select "view hidden files" press ok
7.now there should be a folder on ur ipod called "iPod_Control" open it
8.now open the folder called "Music"
9.Now you have many folders that star with "F's" open any of them up becausse they all contain some of your music
10.Right click the bar that says name and check "title"(you may have to do this to every folder)this gives u the name of each song
11.Now just click artist on that same bar and it will be in abc order click on the songs but where it says name and open them with media player

Enjoy!
