Missing Windows 10 Partition - Huge problem!

Hello tech experts of Apple,

I own a Late 2013 MacBook Pro 512GB.

I was installing Windows 10 via a USB drive, and I allocated 100GB for the Windows Partition.

Towards the end of the partitioning process, my laptop crashed. I rebooted the computer, holding down the 'option' key, and I was able to choose and boot into the Windows installation screen. However, during the installation process, the partition page did not show the 100GB of storage I allocated for Windows, instead it only showed the total storage of my computer, which was 467GB. This means the 100GB partition was missing!

So I rebooted back to MacOS. I opened Bootcamp and the uninstall Windows partition option was greyed out. I opened Disk Utility and in the partition page I can't even see the Windows Bootcamp partition!

Now what do I do?

Hello Loner T, I apologise, but I have encountered a new error.

So as we discussed, I have gotten my lost storage back. Therefore, I proceeded to open Bootcamp Assistant, but it showed me this error:

Assuming SIP is disabled, use the following commands (do not type text like this).

sudo gdisk /dev/disk0

m (Main)

d (delete)

1 (GPT1)

d (delete)

2 (GPT2)

n (new)

1 (GPT 1)

40 (Start)

+409600 (Size. Notice the "+" sign).

EF00 (EFI)

n (new)

2 (GPT 2)

409640 (Start)

+975425848 (Size. Notice the "+" sign).

AF00 (HFS+)

n (new)

3 (GPT 3)

975835488 (Start)

+1269536 (Size. Notice the "+" sign).

AB00 (Apple Boot)

p (print)

w (write)

y (Confirm write)

q (quit, if necessary)

Reboot and test booting OS X. If it works, run

diskutil repairDisk disk0

If everything is clean, back up OS X, and then try BC/Windows installation.

Hi,

If you don't find another option, you'll need boot into Recovery or Internet Recovery (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201314) to erase your HD, reinstall the OS, restore your data from your backup and use Boot Camp again.

I've been looking through online solutions and found your solution for this person! However, it is not working for me... I followed some tutorials online and now when I type "diskutil cs list", it shows the following:

Your CoreStorage volume was reduced, but it was never correctly allocated to a FAT32 partition. This is a known issue.

From OS X Terminal, please post the text output (not a screen shot) of

diskutil list

diskutil cs list

The following resizeVolume grows the CS LV to the maximum size available.

From OS X Terminal, please run the following commands,

diskutil cs resizeVolume C9FEA98A-E7BF-4CCF-9345-9244B1A3F051 0g

diskutil repairDisk disk0

Reboot and check the output of

diskutil cs list

Can you boot into Internet Recovery, start Utilities -> Terminal, run the same commands again, select the output and Copy (Command+C) the entire session, quit Terminal, start Safari and Paste (Command+V) the output as a reply to this discussion.

Now reboot normally, and check.

If you started a FV2 disable, please let it finish. It can take a while. Once it finishes, we can check 'cs list' output after that. Run diskutil cs list to check the status. If you have an underlying CS volume after FV2 decryption finishes, will need to check the CS LV and redo the commands with appropriate values.

Please back up OS X, then try to install Windows. Once Windows is installed, you can recreate the CS LV and encrypt it as necessary. Once Windows is fully installed, backup OS X, Windows and create a Windows System Restore point.

Future OSX versions may force CS conversion.

If you notice, you no longer have an EFI partition. BCA expects it. Can you run

diskutil repairDisk disk0

and check the output of

diskutil list
