CarPlay doesn't work after iOS 10.3.1 update

I installed iOS 10.3.1 and now CarPlay does not work. There's a brief notification, but it doesn't stay active long enough for me to read it. I think it's something like "Device not found."

I restarted the phone. I restarted the car. I had the phone forget the car to do a new connection. Now the phone and the car can't find each other. It worked perfectly before the update.

Hello ghiarev,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to use CarPlay with your iPhone and your vehicle. Please follow each of these steps in this article to help resolve your issue:

If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, here’s what you can check. After each step, try using CarPlay again.

  1. Make sure that Siri is turned on.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car. Depending on your car, you might see the CarPlay Home screen when you turn it on. If you don't, look for the CarPlay logo on your car’s display.
  3. If possible, connect your iPhone to a different USB port in your car.
  4. Try a different Lightning to USB cable. Make sure that the cable is certified.
  5. Update to the latest version of iOS.
  6. Check your car’s manual for help. You might need to install firmware updates for your stereo.

Set up CarPlay with your iPhone

Cheers!

Thanks for the response, but no joy. CarPlay showed up for a minute, then when I touched my Apple Lightning cable CarPlay disconnected and disappeared. This may simply have been part of the pattern I have been experiencing of CarPlay randomly showing up and working normally every once in a while. My iPhone is making random "connecting" pinging sounds while the Apple Lightning cable is connected, but these don't result in any action on the car's touchscreen or the iPhone. The Apple Lightning cable came from an Apple box 150 days ago and has only ever been used in this car.

I can stream my audio through Bluetooth, but I would have to control it through my iPhone, which is unlawful to touch while driving. Not a satisfactory fix with the GM system -- sorry that you had to spend hours on it! My daughter has a 2016 VW Golf with Apple CarPlay; hopefully she hasn't updated her iOS yet...

In my case, when this occurred, it turned out that my Lightening cable was to blame. Something changed in either 10.3.1 or 10.3.2, and a cable that used to work (bought from Amazon as certified) no longer worked for CarPlay. I switched to a different (also listed as certified) cable and everything worked great.

I took the non-working cable and switched it to a power A/C adapter in my home and it works still for charging purposes only.

IMHO it’s VW problem. I have a new sharan and for me it’s unbelievable how bad QA VW has regarding mediacentrum (or how the radio is called). Moreover I have clear idea how R&D works in traditional car makers. My former schoolmate has company implementing navigation system for Mercedes. Really shocking. (Sorry my friend). So after my experience I blame VW.
