Changing iTunes Library Drive Letter

The motherboard on my old PC went up. All of the iTunes media was on C drive, which currently works fine.

I purchased a laptop with a small boot drive C and a large data drive D. I can't fit the previous PC's iTunes library onto C. So, it all needs to go on D which means that I can't change the iTunes library location and consolidate the library over to D.

How can I go about retaining all of the library data (playlists, counts, dates, etc.) and direct iTunes to the new drive?

I may have done something incorrect. After performing the consolidation steps, my music is still in its original location. Pretty much the only difference is that the iTunes library files are on the J drive now. The iTunes Library.xml file still shows tracks residing on the C drive as well. I confirmed this by viewing the properties of some of the songs in iTunes. Unsure what I missed here.

I've been at this too long apparently. I selected the consolidate option and NOT the consolidate checkbox. It's moving the files now. Once I verify that everything is on the J drive, I'll delete all copies on C, D, and J and remove the link between C and D.

Yep, you shouldn't have copied any media files by hand. Did you copy over the library files and the album artwork folder yourself? It sounded as if you were suggesting that iTunes did it, which would be novel.

I'll probably continue to use Crashplan. It really saved me this time since my old PC got fried. I wasn't sure if the hard drive was affected, but it was pretty easy to restore my files from that drive. Thank you for all of your assistance!
